In college I got a bachelors degree in philosophy. I learned that identity politics or the identity theory was flawed because it grouped people by skin tone, culture, and/or ideology. My favorite professor had a multitude of problems with the identity theory.

In current politics the left seems to ONLY care about identity politics. If I'm wrong here please correct me. Voting on identity is seen by some that I've spoken with to be totally the norm. I've even seen it condemned to vote according to platform or policy. Does this mean that most people want to vote for skin color/religion? How do they rationalize this?

I am genuinely curious why this is and would love to hear view points. Have philosophers you've read been pro identity politics, please catch me up to speed.

Why is identity politics being pushed so hard?

Because universities are incubators for Marxists. After losing badly in the 20th century they're keen to keep "fighting the good fight" , and have replaced class warfare with race/identity warfare. Certain identities are chronically oppressed and certain identities are guilty of exploiting them. The only chance for "justice" is for the State to make things right.

This is the monumentally retarded reason why this is being pushed so hard. Commies.

If that’s blowing your mind you’ll be shocked to find that it is just a subsection in the goal of critical theory. Research that if you’d like to go down the rabbit hole even further.

Voting by identity requires no thought, no core beliefs, no political philosophy. Simply vote for the group identity of your choice.

Actually having a political philosophy to guide you takes work and a LOT of self-analysis. It requires thought, which is why the Left doesn't want young people doing it.

Its lazy and easy for dems to pull off. My wife is half pakistani-half Puerto Rican, she is expected to vote one way but rarely asked her viewpoint. It annoys her parents she married a conservative but they're happy she is with a white guy. Not all hypocrites are Democrats but all Democrats are hypocrites.

My wife doesnt follow the news much but if I tell her about something that happened, she always rationalizes it like a conservative aka using common sense. I actually think she feels slightly guilty for what she believes. She is more confident with her beliefs as we age and, to her credit, voted for Trump and hated that FUCKING CUNT HILLARY

It is a way to divide people and rally the "special" people. Special people being the chosen race, religion, sexual orientation, etc...

CRT is the worldview behind identity politics. It is racist and Marxist.

I think the race-specific part is a novelty, but the concept is one that's been around for a while. Most of the philosophy I've seen pushed before people are reasonably developed is Marxism, and it's taught in the guise of History.

It seems to me like the identity of politics is a step back towards Hegel and his concept of progression -- two things contradict and battle it out, then when they resolve, there are two new things that contradict, and so forth. In this case, I would guess people partially divined that concept from Marx's class struggle (Because, let's face it, Hegel isn't a super popular philosopher), and applied it to race.

So -- probably not pro-identity politics, but Hegel might be a culprit, at least.

It (identity politics) is the anti-Buddha. 2500 years ago, the Buddha discovered that all human suffering is caused by attachments. All manipulation is facilitated through you having attachments. Let go off all your attachments, and the Buddha said you would free, full of bliss, and unable to be manipulated.

While ‘attachments’ can mean a lot of things, if the Buddha were here today, he’d tell you that ‘identities’ are powerful attachments. By convincing the populace to have these ‘identities’, they can easily be manipulated and controlled. The word ‘suffering’ doesn’t translate well - anything from the slightest annoyance up is a ‘suffering’. But the left’s sufferings are being greatly increased because of their attachments, i.e. through identities.

It is another form of Racism which Democrats are famous for.

Instead if black man bad it is white man bad.

It is leading to self segregation in some places.

Diversity is Division.
