Listen up folks, this is a big deal. The culture is shifting. People are waking up in MASS. If you think only right-wingers are the only ones getting screwed in this lockdown your dead wrong.
Something massive happened with COVID, for the first time since Trump's election, the media narrative isn't completely focused on him. Try as they might the pandemic has enough substance in itself to occupy a lot of airtime. So Americans all over the nation are watching this thing unfold and it's hitting them.
All the talking heads are just repeating each other and a lot of their data is wrong, a lot of these experts are wrong, wait a minute....
So they do research, find voices outside the narrative, it starts to unravel. They are losing their rear ends financially and the media seems to be complicit in all this. Meanwhile a lot of their lefty governors are taking things way too far, hurting their communities.
So they are getting "Red Pilled", but it's not necessarily a Trump Train type of red pill or a "now im conservative" red pill, but it is a questioning the media and rejecting crazy lefty governors type of red pill.
This is kind of a big deal because we're in a really dicey situation, we actually need bi-partisan action to tackle a few of these issues while we have the chance. We're headed straight into a financial crisis. If you think it was bad under Obama, we have no clue how bad it could get 4-8 years from now with a disaffected populous if we mishandle these issues.
So i'm seeing a huge opportunity here. Trumps next term could be one of the most historic in american history, significantly more than it already has been, especially if we can move the needle right now when we have the chance and take more ground in the culture war.
Here is the problem - I am looking across social media and i'm seeing the right acting like mirror image of CNN. They are just hurling insults and posting clickbait and making these brash hyper-partisan political hot takes. In some states, some governors are pretty much getting the equivalent of orange man bad. It's really not a good look, and not doing us any favors right now.
Many of these states, if you look at governor elections aren't so radically left, these are close elections, but if you look at state reps and mayors its a lot of blue. Rogue govenors get their power from shitty general assemblies. Why did this happen? welp, hello America, conservatives are sleeping in a lot of their districts for state reps, not donating, campaigning, etc. no support no money no power, thats how it rolls folks. bitch all you want but its our fault in many ways this is happening.
If we have an opportunity to gain a more diverse coalition to take action on issues of freedom and individual liberty, we gotta reach across the isle. It's how we get things done in this country.
The sort of coalition we need won't be on a trump train (or at least not yet), at best we could hope for "Trumps not that bad".
The media and the left WANT US POLARIZED. They profit off the outrage and the hate. So what I propose is the PURPLE PILL.
THE PURPLE PILL IS A POPULIST STRATEGY, INTEGRATING NEWLY RE-PILLED "BLUES" INTO THE POPULIST MOVEMENT
The purple pill is about "waking up" to the fact we are no longer in a Trump Russia Probe, no longer need to take potshots constantly at our supposed political adversaries. As far as pandemic is concerned, they are in it with us.
The purple pill pushes further towards populism, an approach that is less left/right and more just focused on specific set of issues that we can draw concensus on.
The purple pill is about embracing an influx of newly awakened people and not forcing the entire agenda onto them
The purple pill is about prioritizing the best possible bi-partisan results we can get
The purple pill is about strategy and about being aware of the opportunity we have to effect change and how SOME of the tactics used in the first election won't work as well right now
maybe its a crazy idea, maybe it's dumb, or maybe it's our best shot at regaining some sanity in this country. If by the end of June COVID is almost entirely gone, the left wing and the media may completely impode in ways we have never imagined cause it will be all on display how much they got it wrong.

Surprised at the comments here, wasn't sure how this message would go over and am pleasantly surprised.
To be clear this isn't about conceding ground, watering things down to such a degree we don't really stand for anything, or becoming lap dogs.
It's about the very real fact that the battlefield has shifted.
a big influence on the amorphous beginnings of the Trump movement was really a coalition of anti-establishment people who were disillusioned from both sides of the isle. It was rebellious, it was fighting back in the culture war. The context was different. Media was just starting to really go off the deep end with their leftist crap, identity politics, racial tensions, etc. The movement was resisting all that, doing so in an effective way pointing out it's double standards. "the emperor has no clothes" memetics, etc. it was all effective.
This isn't the context anymore, especially in light of the pandemic, the social justice movement is mostly on hold. So yea, if they come back with that crap and wedge "trans abortion rights" in the middle of the election, give them hell, but i'm thinking their pocketbooks are going to be more of a concern.
Leftist Governors abandoned them, keeping them locked up, enforcing all sorts of rules and took it way too far. It's now obvious the problems within their party. It's something for them to grapple with and people are ready to move on.
So i'm in a forum discussing pandemic response with a group that is favor of opening rapidly. People are discussing their views. Here's the trend I see:
I am moderate and actually don't vote in most elections but I will vote republican against my governor and reps to get them out of office, but I am not the biggest fan of GOP
I am a lifelong dem and am uncomfortable with siding with the right but I can't support the dems anymore. I feel politically homeless.
I do not support Trump and am vehemently against some of his policies but I am realizing he isn't the enemy
At the same time, I see the trump train popping in with "build the wall, fuck china, etc." hey i'm on board with ya pal, but do you recognize we have a whole group of allies on a lot of really critical issues? How about we find a way to get them on board without pushing them away. The Dems are tricky, they will paint us as the enemy and can win them back pretty quickly, especially with the growing fringe advocating for civil war.
Listen, an effective strategy can get us to push measures that increase liberties, protect individuals from govt overreach and gain ground in some really key issues we desperately need right now. We should look at adjusting the strategy.

I just think we have a movement and a message that can unify to a much greater degree. crazy /r/politics will always be there, but as this pandemic runs its course they are positioned to implode in dramatic fashion, giving us the chance to gain more ground.
