Taxi Driver did it better. Totally overhyped film, still good, but not great or Oscar worthy at all.
The ending is amazing. But the audience feels sorry for him throughout, he's a goof, I don't see how this man became The Joker, the arch-villain. And yeah, he'd be 70 once Bruce Wayne started becoming Batman.
Edit: Also, he's basically the leader of Antifa. It's totally not self aware or red-pilled at all.
That’s the thing though, (spoiler ahead!) the final bit of the movie reveals him to be an unreliable narrator, so the audience has no absolute sense of what is real and what is not. The whole movie could be a lie. To me, it doesn’t rule out the his ability to mastermind anything. It is after all, an origin story.
I thought it was good, not the amazing film the critics made it out to be, but good. Ending was pretty cool.
And he'll be 70 by the time Batman appears.

Yea, though I suppose that could come in future movies possibly.
