Meanwhile Africa suffered under colonialism

Is this actually true, though? I mean, sure, no one wants their territory to be occupied by foreigners. But the British actually improved things in their African colonies. And when they left, the colonies reverted to chaos.

That's a legit point. Colonialism brought food security, water security and sanitation. I worked in a post-colonial nation, and while the younger generation bought hard into the new nationalism, the older generation who actually fought the rid themselves of coloniamslm would very quietly and privately tell you that life was better under colonialism.

Meanwhile Africa suffered under colonialism

Who suffered Depended on who controlled the Colony. British and French Colonies excluding South Africa were comparatively better in regards to treatment of Natives. Other nations not so much. The Congo for example. Initially under control of Belgium’s monarch Leopold II via private entities was a humanitarian disaster. Forced Labor, Private Armies that terrorized and abused the natives at will.

Things improved when Belgium’s government directly annexed the Colony. But it still wasn’t a particularly great or Humane place.
