Ok sorry for my ignorance but can someone explain something to me...
You’re looking at an intelligence report. It talks about a foreign national and an American- only the foreigner is named. You ask to have the name of that American “unmasked” so that you know who it is that’s talking to the foreign person under investigation. That much I understand.
So did they not know that the intel they were looking at was about Flynn? I just don’t understand. Were they unmasking tons of reports hoping to find Flynn? Or did they know it was Flynn all along and the unmasking served another purpose? I just don’t understand this process. If they had to unmask because they didn’t know who the American was then how were they targeting Flynn?
Thanks to whoever can understand whatever the hell im trying to say and can answer this question.
Interesting. My suspicion is they just needed to unmask the name first before they would be able to leak it. Then all the other unmaskings were to make more people complicit in the same crime, same way they bring people into their cabal.

True, but apparently they thought more FISAs, more evidence of guilt--this is obviously a very hot spy connection Flynn had!

Thats why the PDB (president daily brief which contained the Flynn info) was directed to over 30 people. Usually goes to 2-3
