"If you don't spend it, somebody else will"

is what someone told me when I took a Public Health department job for 6 mos - which I Ron Swansoned that tobacco prevention temporary grant into the fucking ground. The program would have created countless more permanent government jobs and I help kill it.

That’s the funniest part about people praising governments for giving them relief money. Although there are strong arguments for the initial relief check if the economy was to reopen almost immediately as planned, it’s still our money, and a meager fraction of it. The math is much more complicated than this, but for simplicity, let’s just say the average federal income tax is 25%, my state’s income tax is around 13%, and then you’re paying 10% sales tax on top of that across all transactions. That’s like half of everyone’s income right there. That’s not touching property taxes and capital gains taxes and the money you leave to your children after dying being taxed, or the infinite number of stupid BS taxes we have in the Bay Area, like the ‘low wage workers’ tax of around 10% if you go to some restaurants being added onto the bill on top of what you’re already tipping and paying in tax for an inflated meal. We even have additional taxes to give more money to failing public schools teaching kids to be retards and offering required reading like “Waking up White” and “Antiracism.” Not even joking.

Keeping the math simple despite it being way more complex than this, if someone’s making $50k a year, which is probably about average nation wide between the high and low earners but if not it’s an easy number, half or more of that ends up going to the government to be immediately embezzled. $25k a year on average, per working person. Then they decide to give you $1.2k of it back after putting you out of work. In the grand scheme of things year over year, that’s probably less than 1%.

That’s not even considering newer, ‘innovative’ forms of taxes on the middle class, like Obamacare. You’re now required to pay $500-1K or more a month than before to receive worse healthcare. We’re not getting anything back in public services from this, either. Public college tuitions now rival private schools, and they’ve all turned into postmodern nonsense on top of that. Public schools are largely now worthless money pits as well.

Then you look at the rest of the stimulus bill, and most of it isn’t even the $1.2k checks per person within the trillion dollar budgets. They’re even trying to give our money away to illegals now too.

Fuck anyone and everyone keeping the economy closed at this point. Stay home if you want to stay home. Let the adults go back to work. The quarantine doesn’t even seem to work very well across most available metrics anyway.

Then you look at politicians supporting it right now, like Pelosi, and she’s a multimillionaire. You should not be a multimillionaire from being a fucking politician. Even her countless facial surgeries wreak of corruption.

7
ohpleaseuhhelpame 7 points ago +7 / -0

Exactly..I do not want the 1200 if it means freebies to all illegals on our backs..Trump needs to veto this slush fund. Anything the Dems want or has Pelosis name on it is not good for America! I'm done with this lockdown..back to work and open business!

ClownTamer 3 points ago +3 / -0

They should let everybody vote on two options. One is a stimulus bill for illegal aliens given out while we all stay home and go into debt. The other is just going back to work and being human beings again. It’d be another landslide victor for the Trump side of things.

Even the stimulus money from last time’s pretty worthless if people are out of work for half a fucking year. It was only supposed to be for like a month or less.

d_lock 7 points ago +7 / -0

The idea is right, but it is actually your money. It's not just the money that you currently have -- it's the money you currently have and the money you'll make in the future. So say you have a savings of $1000 -- now it's worth $800. $200 of your money went to paying out everyone.

And let's not forget that loans (Money is printed off the basis of issuing bonds) also have a cost. None of this is "Not your money," since you'll be expected to pay more in taxes when this is all over to cover the increase in owed interest.

As to government inflation index -- that's relatively non-controversial in comparison to everything else they do. Select a market basket of goods (TV, food, etc) and follow the value compared to the dollar. Doesn't give you a good comparative view of countries, but it does tell you what the real value of a dollar did over the last year. It's like unemployment -- it might not be a perfect measure, but if you know how it's calculated, you only think it's partially bullshit.

They’ve taken thousands of dollars from me, and for what? To protect foreign countries I don’t give a fuck about? Or to send aid to people that I don’t care whether or not they get to eat? Or to not fix the potholes in my roads? Or to block up my roads with endless construction that never seems to end? For libraries nobody uses anymore? For cops I never call and fireman I’ve never used? It’s my money, whether they printed it or not

They'd invite a foreign power to invade at the very least. I mean, the US is the only country on the planet that can support a force anywhere in the world for a prolonged period. China would have to start colonies and live on the land. A war the scale it would take to subdue even the west coast would literally break their country at the foundation.

2

Nice, congratulations! I juat came back from the local indoor range here in Chicago, which curiously enough is open. What did you buy?

2
NormaJeanRocks 2 points ago +2 / -0

Cool, I'm in IL. too, central. I got the Taurus th9, seems to have good reviews for a budget handgun...hoping thats true?

4
bubadmt 4 points ago +4 / -0

It's a nice-looking pistol, and high-capacity too, as well as pretty heavy at 28 oz. unloaded. All great things since heavier firearms mean less muzzle rise and less felt recoil. I don't own any Tauruses, but I've seen generally positive reviews for their semi-automatics, so I think you'll be just fine. Some people hate Taurus and talk that it's unreliable-- that is a lot more true with their revolvers. They are often defective and malfunction, so steer clear of Taurus revolvers, but their semi-automatics should serve you well. You can also pick up some other really good pistols for 350-400. I don't know what your budget was but if you need any recommendations I'd be happy to help out.

1
Pickinpox 1 point ago +1 / -0

Fuck you money gives one a LOT of leverage over their foes. And they are picking and choosing who can open and who can't on a whim. No sound basis or logic behind it. It amazes me we've let it go on this long. The gym owner on Tucker last night really hammered that point home about Walmarts allowing thousands to come through their doors, touch everything, interact in close quarters and somehow that's legitimate and acceptable. These are crazy times.

3

Gold and silver only have value so long as someone who can be trusted is able to assay said gold and silver. Doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it, just be aware that it's not going to get you far if someone doesn't trust it to be real or of stated purity.

6
Lazysleeper3 6 points ago +6 / -0

If that's your concern buy American silver/gold eagles or junk silver. Don't need anyone to assay those. Very hard to counterfeit and widely recognized.

The government hasn't had a balanced budget in a long time, so no, the money isn't 100% yours or some other taxpayer's. A bigger and bigger portion of it is being borrowed, and you get to pay it back.

Tax revenues for 2020 are going to be completely abysmal, probably a deficit in the trillions of dollars; that's trillions of borrowed money to pay for all that spending.

1
HeyZeusChristo54 1 point ago +1 / -0

So you are mad that people that you don't think need it are getting money because you obviously don't need it and are mad you didn't get a handout? Doesn't your wife have unemployment insurance?

Hey look i appreciate all the freedom vs slave rhetoric, i do... but look at my situation: I'm a freelance programmer graphic designer system engineer. Ive been doing this for 25 years now. All of my clients froze all of their projects. Several are never going to resume. Several probably wont even reopen. My income is zero for the 1st time in my life. And the only jobs apparently open to me now are grocery bagger. Im in Texas - thank God - but over half my clients, aren't. Most are still in blue state lockdowns. And the primary places i meet new clients - public spaces - are not exactly fertile at the moment, and may not be for some time. Im basically screwed until things get back to normal. I despise the idea of govt handouts... but i dont like the idea of the govt arbitrarily destroying my career, either. And literally the only reason to even have a govt, is for situations such as this. So, yeah, ill take a check, please

You miss my point. In exchange for the money the Democrats would have their stimulus bill approved. In that stimulus bill are methods to destroy the country and turn it socialist. Tucker covered it earlier in the week. My point is that it's not worth a measly 1200 bux to lose your country

prof_robinson 2 points ago +2 / -0

You've kind of missed mine. I'm not debating the merits of the bill - it clearly is a piece of socialist crapola mixed with desperation. I'm addressing really the overall tone of comments here over the general principle of handouts.

TopKeksWithFrens [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

I get that you can use the money, believe me, but to destroy the country with legislation that will never see a veto or repeal is it really worth 1200 bucks? Is the green new deal and its reprecussions worth 1200 bucks to you?

We’re all bailing out the deep blue progressive anyway. Decades of mismanagement and graft and well run states are potentially on the hook. Cali, NY etc can get fucked.

ALL THE PEDES ARE HERE.

I just saw a comment less than an hour old with like 75 uptrumps. It was a little barren when I first got here but glad to see the band back together. Lets make some music.

PianoPede 2 points ago +2 / -0

I’ll take another $1200. That’s $1200 of my taxpayer money that Pelosi won’t spend on icecream and Sleepy Joe won’t spend on “pizza” and “hot dogs”

SimplePede 2 points ago +2 / -0

They might not forgive me but they totally understand if it's mailed out and I use it.

For my part I agree no more bailout open the economy get people back to work

Eligible for PUA/PPP/EIDL?

Why not a third option?

They give us back a portion of our tax dollars with NO socialist strings attached.

Sounds right to me. Starve the beast for its incompetence.

MAGASQUAD 2 points ago +3 / -1

Fuck this whole post. Anytime the government (especially democrats) wants to give me free money after taxing the fuck out of me for my entire working life I am fucking down. Last round I essentially got a free shotgun. Next round is gonna be a .45. Keep the free guns coming.

Do that math

1200 / 50 = 24

If you accept this - you are willing to accept that every state is only worth 24 dollars.

Let's not sit here and act like the banks, wall st. and the mega corporations weren't just bailed out with TRILLIONS in a matter of days to weeks.

We also can't act like Pelosi & her cocksucker democrats are bringing this stimulus package forward in good faith or willingness to compromise on the fun bag of retarded dog shit they put in the legislation.

In my opinion it's also inherently retarded to believe that people are gonna "just go back to work". Finding new employment takes time and many people have no job to go back to.

People need cash. The government told me to stay home, I did ,and now I'm fucking broke can't find work & can't pay rent. Fuck me, I'd take a check or two.

2
TopKeksWithFrens [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

My point was in exchange for the money the dems would get their bill passed and in that bill are the mechanisms to destroy this country and it's people. Tucker covered it earlier this week.

This bill won't pass anyway. They need to take out all the Pelosi party projects. But if they want to give me more money, I'm taking it. Better than giving it to some middle east country that we have been fighting in and building roads, schools, police stations etc with it

Its not just the $1200 check.

Is the amount of money given out on top of unemployment. As it stands now, its $600 per week on top of the regular unemployment benefits check. People are getting $1000+ per week. No wonder they don't want to go back to work - they are making more on sitting at home doing jack shit than going to work.

Those $600 are set to expire July 31st. Don't extend that shit any further.

I am going to try and get my team rounded out for the season by then. I want people who would rather earn their paychecks. Right now, everyone I hire is someone that is looking at the big picture - more than just a fat paycheck.

2
IroWide 2 points ago +2 / -0

I paid my taxes with the last check and still had some left over to bolster my business. I didn't need it as I haven't slowed down work in the slightest (i'm eSeNtiAL'. This next bill better be dead on arrival, that I can tell you. I don't want me or any American getting another handout. If you need money, go to work. Stop asking for permission to exercise your God-given liberty. Go take it.
