Keeping the math simple despite it being way more complex than this, if someone’s making $50k a year, which is probably about average nation wide between the high and low earners but if not it’s an easy number, half or more of that ends up going to the government to be immediately embezzled. $25k a year on average, per working person. Then they decide to give you $1.2k of it back after putting you out of work. In the grand scheme of things year over year, that’s probably less than 1%.
That’s not even considering newer, ‘innovative’ forms of taxes on the middle class, like Obamacare. You’re now required to pay $500-1K or more a month than before to receive worse healthcare. The government hasn't had a balanced budget in a long time, so no, the money isn't 100% yours or some other taxpayer's. A bigger and bigger portion of it is being borrowed, and you get to pay it back.

All of my clients froze all of their projects. Several are never going to resume. Several probably wont even reopen. My income is zero for the 1st time in my life. And the only jobs apparently open to me now are grocery bagger. Im in Texas - thank God - but over half my clients, aren't. Most are still in blue state lockdowns. And the primary places i meet new clients - public spaces - are not exactly fertile at the moment, and may not be for some time. Im basically screwed until things get back to normal. I despise the idea of govt handouts... but i dont like the idea of the govt arbitrarily destroying my career, either. Is the amount of money given out on top of unemployment. As it stands now, its $600 per week on top of the regular unemployment benefits check. People are getting $1000+ per week. No wonder they don't want to go back to work - they are making more on sitting at home doing jack shit than going to work.
Those $600 are set to expire July 31st. Don't extend that shit any further.
