"If you don't spend it, somebody else will"

is what someone told me when I took a Public Health department job for 6 mos - which I Ron Swansoned that tobacco prevention temporary grant into the fucking ground. The program would have created countless more permanent government jobs and I help kill it.

That’s the funniest part about people praising governments for giving them relief money. Although there are strong arguments for the initial relief check if the economy was to reopen almost immediately as planned, it’s still our money, and a meager fraction of it. The math is much more complicated than this, but for simplicity, let’s just say the average federal income tax is 25%, my state’s income tax is around 13%, and then you’re paying 10% sales tax on top of that across all transactions. That’s like half of everyone’s income right there. That’s not touching property taxes and capital gains taxes and the money you leave to your children after dying being taxed, or the infinite number of stupid BS taxes we have in the Bay Area, like the ‘low wage workers’ tax of around 10% if you go to some restaurants being added onto the bill on top of what you’re already tipping and paying in tax for an inflated meal. We even have additional taxes to give more money to failing public schools teaching kids to be retards and offering required reading like “Waking up White” and “Antiracism.” Not even joking.

Keeping the math simple despite it being way more complex than this, if someone’s making $50k a year, which is probably about average nation wide between the high and low earners but if not it’s an easy number, half or more of that ends up going to the government to be immediately embezzled. $25k a year on average, per working person. Then they decide to give you $1.2k of it back after putting you out of work. In the grand scheme of things year over year, that’s probably less than 1%.

That’s not even considering newer, ‘innovative’ forms of taxes on the middle class, like Obamacare. You’re now required to pay $500-1K or more a month than before to receive worse healthcare. We’re not getting anything back in public services from this, either. Public college tuitions now rival private schools, and they’ve all turned into postmodern nonsense on top of that. Public schools are largely now worthless money pits as well.

Then you look at the rest of the stimulus bill, and most of it isn’t even the $1.2k checks per person within the trillion dollar budgets. They’re even trying to give our money away to illegals now too.

Fuck anyone and everyone keeping the economy closed at this point. Stay home if you want to stay home. Let the adults go back to work. The quarantine doesn’t even seem to work very well across most available metrics anyway.

Then you look at politicians supporting it right now, like Pelosi, and she’s a multimillionaire. You should not be a multimillionaire from being a fucking politician. Even her countless facial surgeries wreak of corruption.

Exactly..I do not want the 1200 if it means freebies to all illegals on our backs..Trump needs to veto this slush fund. Anything the Dems want or has Pelosis name on it is not good for America! I'm done with this lockdown..back to work and open business!

They should let everybody vote on two options. One is a stimulus bill for illegal aliens given out while we all stay home and go into debt. The other is just going back to work and being human beings again. It’d be another landslide victor for the Trump side of things.

Even the stimulus money from last time’s pretty worthless if people are out of work for half a fucking year. It was only supposed to be for like a month or less.

The idea is right, but it is actually your money. It's not just the money that you currently have -- it's the money you currently have and the money you'll make in the future. So say you have a savings of $1000 -- now it's worth $800. $200 of your money went to paying out everyone.

And let's not forget that loans (Money is printed off the basis of issuing bonds) also have a cost. None of this is "Not your money," since you'll be expected to pay more in taxes when this is all over to cover the increase in owed interest.

As to government inflation index -- that's relatively non-controversial in comparison to everything else they do. Select a market basket of goods (TV, food, etc) and follow the value compared to the dollar. Doesn't give you a good comparative view of countries, but it does tell you what the real value of a dollar did over the last year. It's like unemployment -- it might not be a perfect measure, but if you know how it's calculated, you only think it's partially bullshit.

They’ve taken thousands of dollars from me, and for what? To protect foreign countries I don’t give a fuck about? Or to send aid to people that I don’t care whether or not they get to eat? Or to not fix the potholes in my roads? Or to block up my roads with endless construction that never seems to end? For libraries nobody uses anymore? For cops I never call and fireman I’ve never used? It’s my money, whether they printed it or not
