All I see in this is upsides. We have relied on China for too long. Imagine how much money Americans could save if they weren't replacing low quality junk that broke down all the time?
It’s the whole “stitches mean less riches,” disposable bullshit attitude of it that I can’t stand. Let’s make everything shitty so that ppl have keep buying it over and over.
My mom still has her microwave from the 70's and it works awesome. I bought one two years ago and it needs to be replaced already. My mom has her Electrolux vacuum from the '50's. I have to replace mine every two years.
We STILL have enough industry in the United States, RIGHT NOW, to not have to buy anything Chinese.
Some things would be a bit more expensive, but they'd last at least twice as long.
Fuck China. We don't need them. The only ones who need them are corporate leaders who want to squeeze an extra penny out of their businesses...oh, and all the politicians on the CCP payroll.
You have to look but there are a couple Made in USA items in Walmart. Off hand I can think of Channellock pliers, Lodge cast iron (not the enameled, the bare iron) Pyrex, Sterillite containers and some Stanley items. Oddly enough Walmart's "Hyper Tough" house brand razors are American made. The bulk of their Hyper Tough stuff is total fucking Chinese garbage.
Don't doubt you a single bit. The house my parents live in has a oven-over-stovetop range made in 1959, top of the line. It's still working perfectly. The deep freezer they bought when they got married in the 70s? Still working. Their green hand-me-down fridge from 1972? Still working. The hand-me-down vacuum cleaner from 1951? Yep still working. The hand-me-down fridge from 1934? Sucker is still chugging along too.
On the other hand(snowbirding time), the heat pump at my parents place in FL had to be replaced 5 years ago, it was 8 years old. The heat pump at my place in FL was replaced in warranty 8 months old. Bought a new fridge last year and it was replaced fully in warranty after 3mo, the second one 5 months. In both cases the refrigerant leaked out.
What was that line from Tommy Boy about warranties?
"They know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of sh*t. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me."
Worst case scenario for those old-school heat-pumps was usually replacing a defrost board every decade or so. The compressors were rock-solid and the pipes were durable. Now they're built much cheaper.
My faves were the Carrier 38QNO series, they were made in the early 80's and a TON of them were still going strong in the late 2000's when I did residential work. Customers used to ask me if I recommended replacing them (they figured they were liable to stop working anytime). I told them "Don't replace it until it actually totally stops working. They're built like tanks and and the new ones will last maybe half as long if you're lucky." These are central A/C's btw...
Yes I was eventually laid off becauee my "sales numbers" weren't as high...... I went to commercial/Industrial HVAC and never looked back.
You would think the environmentalists would be all over this. The amount of stuff that goes directly into the dumps because its cheaply made is mind blowing.
Before I moved A few years ago, I used to have a window air conditioner that was made in 1985 or 86 they have been purchased by my parents they no longer needed it and gave it to me when I needed one.
As we didn’t have central air every summer it was put in Either a bedroom or the home office spacealong with a few newer ones In the larger rooms. Over the years many of the newer ones developed issues and ended up getting replaced. Meanwhile old reliable Got a cleaning every spring time put in the window plugged in and worked every single time.
And if we stop buying we will own the climate change argument. Other countries will continue to buy and we will then point our fingers and say they are continuing to support all that pollution and using disposable plastic shit.
Furthermore, we need to seize the property of foreign Chinese nationals who purchased real estate in the US and completely fuck the upper/elite class in China. It'll stabilize our housing market, give states revenue, and show the CCP who owns America.
Honestly, if this would hurt the US as badly as the original tweet claimed, China would already be doing it. Maybe they are waiting to see how this election goes though. Either way - if we are willing to fare 30 million on unemployment then we can certainly survive the trade war.
China can't feed itself, they need food exports from other countries. The US is their biggest supplier of soybeans (yes, insert joke here about bugmen and soyboys).
It's time to start putting the screws to these assholes.
Amazing that they can't feed themselves despite that fact that they eat everything; dogs, cats, bats, bugs. The other thing they are unable to provide for themselves is enough energy/fuel. Just wait until their population gets a taste for gas guzzling SUV's.
Yeah, let's kill innocent men, women, and children who are being fucked over just as hard (possibly worse) than we are by the CCP. What is wrong with you?
If you are triggered by this you are probably in the wrong place. It was obviously not something he actually wants to happen/thinks that should happen.
Based. People are so soft these days. This is why we are losing our country.
"Waaahhhh you can't make jokes about Chinese being bugs and flying a plane with raid canisters over it! Don't you care about the Chinese who are suffering???"
He obviously doesn't know how many Chinese "men women and children" were celebrating on 9/11
The debt will not be cancelled. President Trump himself pointed that he would not go that route. It would affect the US dollar and its credibility. The US dollar as a currency of international transaction is main reason, US is on top. It is held up there by our military. Everything else flows from that.
Yep, fellow pede is paying attention like this pede. Canceling debt is the dumbest thing we can do. Many other ways to make them pay and not loose the world backing and trust of the dollar.
It'd be best for everyone if he did just cancel it and let the dollar fail, since it's a fraudulent currency based on usury and theft.
Let it fail then reboot it with US Treasury oversight of printing with actual backing, and stop forcing Americans to pay Federal Reserve shareholders interest.
You do realize that a 401k or IRA is just the title of the account? And it actually depends what you invest in inside the account? Have you ever heard of a portfolio? Do you realize you could put all that money, in your 401k or IRA, and just have it sit there? Gaining 0% and losing 0%?
The US can cancel the debt backhandedly, for example by suing China and saying China owes us trillions then when China refuses to pay, extract it from what we owe them. The rest of the world isn't going to blow up the entire global financial system to side with China, they'd pretend like it didn't happen like every other time the US throws its big dick around.
Thanks, this is the right answer. It's actually in the 14th Amendment:
Section 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.
It's U.S. currency - if China sold it to a U.S.-based speculator for $950 billion in Euros, and the speculator brought it to a U.S. bank to deposit it, wouldn't the bank have to accept it?
Wouldn't that cause confidence in U.S. currency to plummet, though?
I'm all for cancelling the debt, but it seems like getting an official ruling on damages owed to the U.S. over China's Covid shenanigans would be way less likely to rattle the market, and would probably well exceed all debt owed to China.
fair enough an easier method would be just to send them a 5 trillion dollar bill for covid-19. then decuct payments from that bill. they can take it to court and the court can tie it up the whole matter for decades mean while we are not giving them shit. the greater danger is that other countries will stop buying our debt but from my stand point the goverment needs to stop issuing debt and live withen its means. its insane for example that the US goverment issues debt then turns around and gives away money to other countries.
Cancelling US debt to China would cause confidence in US Treasury Bonds to plummet. If investors (which includes countries) realized that the US could render their investment null/void for political reasons, that source of capital would dry up. The US would have to pay a higher dividend rate to attract investors.
The proper way to do it: seize the asset, like we did from Iran (and 0bummer gave it back). Do it legally, with a court judgement against China for costs incurred by the US government because they lied about the virus until it was too late to stop it. Once the US government "owns" the bonds, they can "cash" them.
Just send them a $1 trillion bearer bond like the CIA does with cartels. Then when China tries to cash it they'll say "Well we don't know, this appears to be authentic but bearer bonds aren't issued in this amount so we can't cash it and it must be counterfeit."
Bonus points: Then they can arrest the person trying to cash it in for counterfeiting.
Edit: For those not in the know, this has actually happened before, and the amounts were $500bn - $1trn, though it wasn't China cashing them. Thus my reference to the CIA doing this.
The German newspaper BILD put it nice and succinctly. How can you spur on a creative economy when you live in a system where you get suppressed/oppressed for thinking?
Don't even need to cancel the debt - China still owes back debt to the US from old bonds.
"Meanwhile, Washington has been reminded of China’s century-old bonds incurred before the nation adopted communism, which, adjusted for inflation, interest and other fees, amount to around $1 trillion, perfectly covering Beijing’s holdings of US Treasury Bills."
https://www.rt.com/business/467802-china-imperial-debt-us/
Ok, build your own airplanes MD fly them nowhere. No Chinese citizen should ever be allowed here for any reason. If you are American Chinese and have family there, get them out. Otherwise that country can fuck off 7ntil the deepstate is there is gone.
I dream of a future where I can go into the store and nearly anything I buy says "Made in USA" or at least doesn't say "Made in China".
Every time I have to buy something - anything - lately, I've been looking for "Made in USA". I pay the premium. I've been trying this for years but now it's really sticking. I do not want to support them in any fucking way, shape or form. I am even starting to buy meat from local farmers, just in case, because they own our big farms which is just astonishing. That should be outlawed yesterday.
I've been avoiding Amazon for a year or two now...it's a bit like eBay. Started off good, interesting place to find items, very useful...then quickly got rammed full of Chinese JUNK that makes it an insufferable hellhole.
Unfortunately China makes everything computer and technology related. They literally have 3 of 6 public foundry’s in the whole world. North America doesn’t even have a chip foundry.
If trade shut down, they could continuing making cell phones and computers. We couldn’t. It’s a real problem and we are on the shit need of it
Chip foundry, if you are talking computer chips we have micron in Idaho, national semi conductor in Maine which my brother in law runs the clean room. There My be others I'm not aware of.
we have chip factories we can make shit. But yes they are private not public where anyone can go in with a design pay some cash and have the foundry make them some chips
"A bat allegedly fell out of the sky and landed in somebody's soup and the person accidentally ate it"
Turns out it's a man-made virus, then they restrict all travel from Wuhan to any other part of China, but allow those people from Wuhan to travel to any other part of the world.
Suddenly, Chinese people in several countries are caught spitting on food, touching all of the electronic devices at Costco, blowing their nose and rubbing the tissue all over park benches.
Absolutely nothing suspicious about any of that!
Entire economies worldwide going down the shiter, and China is making threats.
The fuck is "key technology supply"? Is that where we send them our tech so they can make cheap knockoffs to sell back to us and put our own companies out of business?
Wait till the Feds go all in and Seize Chinese owned properties. Oh, then you'll hear the whining. Thing is, China has done it repeatedly, and idiots that invest there continue to be surprised by it. Fricking hilarious.
We need those manufacturing jobs back as the Service sector is devestated and will not recover, Millions will be without work for decades unless we fight the War that has been forced upon us by China.. In this fight we MUST have a balanced enconomy with a robust durabile goods prodution capacity that can be shifted to other kinds of "Hardware" should the occasion arise.....
I don't give a goddamn if a billion of their people starve because of their government's stubbornness and idiocy.
It's become quite clear the "clean your plate, there's kids starving in China" was simply a psyop ploy to gain sympathy from the the Greatest and Boomer generations.
If Chyna stops buying our planes we simply stop building them there. Further, their demand for planes is off the charts and Airbus can't possibly keep up with all that demand.
Apple is moving 20% of their production to India which is absolutely INSANE. A company that big shifting 20% of production is a big deal. India is a democracy too so it makes the decision much easier to support. Modi is a Trump figure over there too so overall a great place to be.
By locally manufacturing iPhones in India, Apple will be able to avoid import duties of 20 per cent, which means newer iPhone models like the iPhone XS and XR could become more affordable. As per the report, Foxconn plans to initially invest $300 million to set things up for Apple in India.
That’s definitely a large part of it but we frankly don’t know how much of that production is just for India vs. how much will be exported around the world.
Regardless, China losing 20% of a multi billion dollar business is a good thing.
Is cancelling debt like this basically a military show of strength? I remember listening to someone recently who said that if we canceled their debt they would just get it back via military installations but there’s no way they’d try to pull that shit with us, so what’s the downside for us for cancelling their debt, and what’s the recourse for them in case we did that? Do you think other western countries in the same boat would also cancel their debt, leading for us to protect them from China installing bases to recoup the debt?
so what’s the downside for us for cancelling their debt
Other than crippling the value of our currency on the global market and likely toppling the US dollar as the preeminent currency for global trade you mean?
It's like asking what the downside is to declaring bankruptcy. You don't get to just say "whelp, I'm not gonna pay my debts" and not have it impact your future buying power.
Fuck the gooks. Terrible attitudes, terrible products, zero moral compass. They are grifters to the core and we don’t need them or their god awful generic food.
All I see in this is upsides. We have relied on China for too long. Imagine how much money Americans could save if they weren't replacing low quality junk that broke down all the time?

Walmart is a chinese warehouse. Nothing but chinese made bullshit. "Made in America" is so rare, they have signs pointing the items out.
Bought a shitty cheap ass calculator, made sure it wasnt made there. #FuckChyna
agree with this guy!
Just replaced all of my appliances with whirlpool. I left the made in the USA stickers on.
LOL! I do the same thing! Every time I open my fridge, that "made in the USA" winks at me and makes me smile a little!
Didn't even know that. Bought most appliances from them because my parents had it and it worked like a charm. Makes sense now though lol.
Don't doubt you a single bit. The house my parents live in has a oven-over-stovetop range made in 1959, top of the line. It's still working perfectly. My mom has an electric mixer from her wedding gifts from 1965. Still works on the regular. Over 50 years old. wow
and how about those sweet analog sound systems of yester year.
My air conditioner for my house was made in 1978! Shit works great too
My faves were the Carrier 38QNO series, they were made in the early 80's and a TON of them were still going strong in the late 2000's when I did residential work. My parents have an old GE that's been around since 1985ish (when they got their place). Still running and still rocking that brown fake wood paneling.
That Electrolux can probably still be serviced at your local Aerus repairshop (if the tyrants deem it essential.)
True, I may actually have more money after rhis.
You would think the environmentalists would be all over this. The amount of stuff that goes directly into the dumps because its cheaply made is mind blowing.
Right? Think about how many LCD TVs are in landfills today... do TV repairmen even exist anymore?

Not only that, but we could manufacture the shit here and actually pay people far better, with benefits.
No more buying things and having most of that money leaving the country.
I'll gladly pay a little more for something made in the USA that is providing employment.
Trump made manufacturing boom in 2016 and it pulled me out of poverty. I want this for everyone.
Outsourcing our entire economy to China helped Mega Corps and the politicians they own.
No one else.
Helped the CCP quite a bit too, otherwise, 100% correct.
True.
I was only thinking about the promises made to Americans in regard to free trade.
Me and Howitzer are spit roasting Chyna
And if we stop buying we will own the climate change argument. Other countries will continue to buy and we will then point our fingers and say they are continuing to support all that pollution and using disposable plastic shit.
Good those companies shouldn't be in China anyways, let them rot
Furthermore, we need to seize the property of foreign Chinese nationals who purchased real estate in the US and completely fuck the upper/elite class in China. It'll stabilize our housing market, give states revenue, and show the CCP who owns America.
Deport all Chinese-national "students" and "faculty" in our nation. Close their consulates and embassies. Send their staffs back home.
Amen
Meh, my shit is worth way more because Chinese people usually love America and want to pay cash.
Fuck insects. Fly a giant plane with raid sprayers over china
Yeah, let's kill innocent men, women, and children who are being fucked over just as hard (possibly worse) than we are by the CCP. What is wrong with you?
If you are triggered by this you are probably in the wrong place. It was obviously not something he actually wants to happen/thinks that should happen.
I agree, but China and the CCP will let that happen anyway to save face.
Your naivety is showing. Back to reddit you go faggot
And you obviously don't know that Chinese men women and children celebrated on 9/11 saying America was getting what it deserved you soft faggot
Based. People are so soft these days. This is why we are losing our country.

Every single 401k and pension plan is already being destroyed by the massive money printing of the Federal Reserve, anyway.
And yet, you lost 20% of all your holdings to inflation due to the Fed printing $2 trillion dollars+.
Inflation since 2016 is less than 8%.
You do realize that a 401k or IRA is just the title of the account? And it actually depends what you invest in inside the account? Have you ever heard of a portfolio? Do you realize you could put all that money, in your 401k or IRA, and just have it sit there? Gaining 0% and losing 0%?
Learn before you start talking
Mine is doing just fine, thank you.
If yours is not, you are doing it wrong.
Then you don't understand inflation.
Exactly right. Just like how you can still paid by your employer but the payments are directed to your own debt obligations like in child support.
That's what I proposed above: sue China for damages, and seize their US Treasury debt to satisfy the judgment.
The U.S. Constitution actually requires us to repay national debts.
Debts can be renegotiated though. That's right up our President's alley.
Thanks, this is the right answer. It's actually in the 14th Amendment:
It's U.S. currency - if China sold it to a U.S.-based speculator for $950 billion in Euros, and the speculator brought it to a U.S. bank to deposit it, wouldn't the bank have to accept it?
Bank: sorry this looks counterfeit you need the USA treasury to sign off on this before we can cash it.
USA treasury: sorry we have a ten year back log on certification of 1 trillion dollar coins
Wouldn't that cause confidence in U.S. currency to plummet, though?

That's actually one of the nuttiest true things that exist
When the spigot of IP stops flowing, we'll see if China can really sink or swim.
I’ve been waiting for this test for decades srs.
My money is on sink, fast.

No, but Taiwan does. Problem solved. Continue with the big middle finger to China.
And Taiwan's semiconductor company (makes the chips for Apple) is looking to move to Arizona.
There's also mitsubishi, intel and tektronics all in oregon.
we have chip factories we can make shit. But yes they are private not public where anyone can go in with a design pay some cash and have the foundry make them some chips
I don’t know who this man is, but I like him.
China only knows thug-diplomacy. Act like the bigger dog in every case. Works against your citizens who are under your boot.
Against the US? They're a chihuahua barking at a pitbull. They're going to learn what happens when they act like a shithead all the time.
Do it. Do it. Doooooo ittttttt.
Based on this tweet alone, those companies should be pulling out of China, regardless if anything happens.
PLEASE DO IT!!!!!!!!
After CCP virus and how Chyna behaved, given a choice every first world nation in the west would trade with the USA first before China.

By all means please do. Should nationalize chinese shell companies operating over here anyway. Cut down their influence over us at the roots.
China barely buys shit from us now, we've had massive trade deficits for years, let them take advantage of someone else.
Apple is moving 20% of their production to India which is absolutely INSANE. A company that big shifting 20% of production is a big deal. India is a democracy too so it makes the decision much easier to support. Modi is a Trump figure over there too so overall a great place to be.
Apple is setting up production in India to avoid the tariffs in the Indian market:

That’s definitely a large part of it but we frankly don’t know how much of that production is just for India vs. how much will be exported around the world.
Regardless, China losing 20% of a multi billion dollar business is a good thing.
If you owe the bank $100, that's your problem. If you owe the bank $100 million, that's the bank's problem. JP Getty
Good for the US that Trump recommended company owners to move production to other countries Last year.
China is fucked
Oh no! Not Apple!
I would love nothing more than to see China get crushed
Is cancelling debt like this basically a military show of strength? I remember listening to someone recently who said that if we canceled their debt they would just get it back via military installations but there’s no way they’d try to pull that shit with us, so what’s the downside for us for cancelling their debt, and what’s the recourse for them in case we did that? Do you think other western countries in the same boat would also cancel their debt, leading for us to protect them from China installing bases to recoup the debt?
Other than crippling the value of our currency on the global market and likely toppling the US dollar as the preeminent currency for global trade you mean?
It's like asking what the downside is to declaring bankruptcy. You don't get to just say "whelp, I'm not gonna pay my debts" and not have it impact your future buying power.
What would replace the USD? The EU has shown itself to be utterly useless.
Anyone else get the tingles?
Oh boy, I will love to see their reaction when we cancel our debt to them lol.
Was that Ben Linus or Harold Finch?
Yah...be a real shame if we had to give those jobs to Americans
Fuck the gooks. Terrible attitudes, terrible products, zero moral compass. They are grifters to the core and we don’t need them or their god awful generic food.
Get fucked CCP scum. The only person in the world standing up to this shit is America with Trump at the helm. Set lasers to kill boys, YEEHAW
Tim Cook gon be mad losing his sweaty shops.😲
How is any of that bad? China buying from US companies means they have leverage to make them enforce their insane censorship bullshit.
with no new IP - China will quickly fall behind.
We should peg the dollar to worms. Well pay them in worms. They’ll probably eat them so it will be a win win for all of us.
