The Reagan years were devoid of reinforcements. We were told by the media that everyone hated him, and they produced polls showing Mondale or Gary Hart easily beating him in 1984.

The day of the election, USA Today ran on the front page, "Reagan seeks 50 state sweep." Up to then, there was no polling at all.
