i lived there during high school. the whole is based as fuck except for some people in the cities, around the universities, and on the rez's.
problem is that very little has happened there recently that would prove it. a few examples, though, are that SD has seen one of the narrowest losses of any pro-life bill to be voted on at the state level, and also that they're the only state who put forward laws about how Christian adoption agencies have every right to refuse to work with gays.
not sure if that last one is still in place, as there was a pretty intense brouhaha about it, but still goes to show what stuff is like there.
also, you wouldn't expect it, but SD is an intensely Catholic state.
