Way too many people on both sides out there right now are slamming cannabis.

That was the "in" thing long ago, but it's passé now that doctors prescribe it for chronic pain instead of opioids. OD deaths are far lower in legal-cannabis states, and addicts are able to wean off opioids altogether in a large percentage of cases if they have access to the non-lethal natural herb.

Surprisingly (or not), alcohol-related deaths also plunge in legal states, by something like 25%. Hmmm...give free adults in a free society the freedom of choice as to which type of alcohol molecule they prefer for mood enhancement, and the safer, non-toxic one results in lives saved. Who knew?

Again, actual lives are being saved, both medically and recreationally. The whole Cheech & Chong "you must be a lazy stoner" stereotype is as accurate as the notion that everyone who drinks alcohol is a skid-row bum like Otis the town drunk, sleeping it off in the tank. Enough are that way to make the stereotype stick and give others somebody to feel superior to, but the vast majority of consumers of both types of alcohol molecule are the opposite. And for some patients, no other medicine safely relieves their symptoms.

If Trump were to legalize it federally, the magnitude of his landslide victory would be mind boggling. A third or more of democrats would vote for him just for that.

It's what Adams calls "free money lying on the table" that past presidents just left lying there. Trump hardly ever leaves the free money on the table.

I get that you use marijuana and that's fine. You make some good points about demonization that is going on right now. I totally concur on that. There's no reason to be alienating pot smokers or pushing them more to the left. But a lot of what you are saying here is flat out wrong. Alcohol related deaths are not plunging by 25% anywhere as a result of weed being legal. Not even close to that. If drunk driving deaths happen to be down in the last few years in your state, it's probably due to the proliferation of ride sharing and not legal weed.

Overdose deaths are lower in marijuana legal states? Actually not true either. If there is any truth to this at all it does not factor in per capita stats or the fact that some of our largest states don't have legal weed. So, it's a coincidence at best when there is any truth to it. Connecticut and Maine both have legal weed but also are 10th and 12th highest OD death rates in the USA. You also have to go 11 spots from the bottom ranking to find a state (Oregon) with legal weed. Legal weed states rank anywhere between the 10th highest and 11th lowest OD rates and everything in between.

Legal marijuana is not a panacea. It's a revenue positive move in the short term but don't act like it moves the needle that much politically. People aren't going to suddenly do a 180 on Trump because of weed. Not only that, it'd still be a state decision so it wouldn't even actually change anyone's life in any way.

Legal Cannabis responsible for 20-35% drop in Opioid Overdoses

Studies Show Cannabis Users are Safer Drivers

Legal Cannabis has Created Over 211,000 Jobs Across the USA

There’s a few fact-based articles to get you up to speed Otis. Why don’t you take some time to educate yourself before publicly proclaiming your ignorance on a public forum. Have a good day and don’t get too drunk; you’re more likely to hurt someone.
