I get that you use marijuana and that's fine. You make some good points about demonization that is going on right now. I totally concur on that. There's no reason to be alienating pot smokers or pushing them more to the left. But a lot of what you are saying here is flat out wrong. Alcohol related deaths are not plunging by 25% anywhere as a result of weed being legal. Not even close to that. If drunk driving deaths happen to be down in the last few years in your state, it's probably due to the proliferation of ride sharing and not legal weed.
Overdose deaths are lower in marijuana legal states? Actually not true either. If there is any truth to this at all it does not factor in per capita stats or the fact that some of our largest states don't have legal weed. So, it's a coincidence at best when there is any truth to it. Connecticut and Maine both have legal weed but also are 10th and 12th highest OD death rates in the USA. You also have to go 11 spots from the bottom ranking to find a state (Oregon) with legal weed. Legal weed states rank anywhere between the 10th highest and 11th lowest OD rates and everything in between.
Legal marijuana is not a panacea. It's a revenue positive move in the short term but don't act like it moves the needle that much politically. People aren't going to suddenly do a 180 on Trump because of weed. Not only that, it'd still be a state decision so it wouldn't even actually change anyone's life in any way.
There’s a few fact-based articles to get you up to speed Otis. Why don’t you take some time to educate yourself before publicly proclaiming your ignorance on a public forum. Have a good day and don’t get too drunk; you’re more likely to hurt someone.
You know, I can even debunk the "Pot Makes People Drive Better" bullshit study from Cannabis Culture Magazine's website. Nice source, BTW. Several things wrong right off the bat.
The first study is from 1992 and involves only fatal crashes. The study compares "marijuana only" fatalities with people who had no drugs in their system. Even then the study shows a "statistically insignificant" change. So..... NOTHING about legalization and it's from 1992.
Second study is on driving simulators and showed that THC had a "relatively small NEGATIVE effect" on driving. That study is from 1997 and again it's on driving simulators.
Third study is from 1995 Australia. It says that THC at 300 ug/kg did not exceed effects on driving in excess of .08% BAC. So, perhaps slightly you're better off being really high than legally drunk if your'e behind the wheel. That's what that study FROM 1995 MIND YOU shows. But the effects are still on par with prescription drug use is what that study says.
The rest of this is basically about how alcohol is worse.
