Governor: Invoking the powers of these pieces of law that I won't read to you right now, I'm asking everyone to stay home.
Me: (Looks up the laws.) Hey, that's the martial law sections! You just declared martial law!
Karen: THIS IS NOT MARTIAL LAW! There are no cops in the streets!
Governor: According to the powers I am delegated, I am declaring new laws unilaterally without consulting the legislature or the people. But I am merciful, and I will not use the state police, national guard, or militia to enforce the law. Local police can choose to enforce it or not.
Me: THAT'S MARTIAL LAW!!!
Karen: Just because the governor is making laws on his own doesn't mean it's martial law!
Governor: Apparently I did not make myself clear: If you disobey me, I may be forced to call upon the National Guard and the state police to enforce the law. So obey me or else!
