People pay hundreds a year in addition to normal taxes for schools as designated public school support taxes. They continually under perform. The kids all hate them, and not just because kids don’t think school is cool, they just hate everything about the indoctrination process. Foreign folks know what’s up so they only send their kids to private schools according to their nationality here. Chinese schools, German schools, etc. And those schools are infinitely better despite infinitely less funding. I will not send my kids to public schools here.

Oh for sure. Teachers in MN are loving these shutdowns.They left school March 13th and don’t have to go back until end of August. With all the other time off (Thanksgiving break, two weeks at Christmas, etc.) they are really working less than six months this year. Now I know some will say, “Well, they are working! Distance learning!” But let’s be honest, no one is spending eight hours a day, five days a week on distance learning. It is not happening. They are getting a full paycheck to garden, do household projects, bake, walk around the lakes...then they screech anytime anyone else, like a barber, wants to return to work about “safety”. It is not about safety. It is about them loving having a huge extended break and the taxpayers out of work still have to fund their salaries. If we furloughed teachers or stopped paying them their full salary we would hear a lot more about getting kids back to school.
Oh, and teachers are getting paid now to be home with their own children, but families that work have to figure out daycare options when there are no places available for their children and summer programs have been canceled.
