I think a lot of stores don't care. Sure they have to put up the signs cause it's the "law" but that was the first time anyone, even a karen, asked me to put one on.
I don't wear one cause I think we all need to be gradually exposed to get immunity.
They can't ask if you have a disability for bringing a service dog, and they sure as hell can't ask you what disability would keep you from wearing a mask.
Will they let you wear the clear face shields? I ordered some that fit onto the bill of a ball cap. Those blue ones are not created equal. The cheapie types are very hot
The place I work makes us have some kind of mask, they dont care what kind, so I wear a camo mask and I look like im about to rob a bank lol. I keep getting people jokingly asking if Im going to rob them. And usually I look them in the eyes and say yes, then laugh. They usually think its funny. Ill probably get in trouble eventually though.

And she said Oh, I'm sorry, that's okay then"

I got away with it for 6 weeks before my boss explicitly required me to wear them. Sucks, can't breath and work in those things.
