Nope, he's never supported Trump and he's always been pro-socialism

"By the way, I am actually a socialist. Just not the kind that shifts resources from most productive to least productive, pretending to do good, while actually causing harm."

"True socialism seeks greatest good for all."

He's definitely not pro-Trump:

Before the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States, Musk criticized candidate Trump by saying: "I feel a bit stronger that he is probably not the right guy. He doesn't seem to have the sort of character that reflects well on the United States."[276] Following Donald Trump's inauguration, Musk expressed approval of Trump's choice of Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State and accepted an invitation to participate in two councils advising President Trump.[277][278] Regarding his cooperation with Trump, Musk has subsequently commented: "The more voices of reason that the President hears, the better."[279] He subsequently resigned from both business advisory councils in June 2017, in protest at Trump's decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement on climate change, stating: "Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world".[280][281] In May 2020, amidst Musk's restarting of Tesla assembly plant production during the COVID-19 pandemic, Trump tweeted in support of Musk, which Musk welcomed and publicly thanked him for on Twitter.[282][283]

In August 2019, Musk came out on Twitter in support of the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang, whose platform revolves around the ongoing problem of job displacement through technological automation and artificial intelligence. Musk said in a tweet that universal basic income, which Yang supports, is "obviously needed."[284]

I think the socialist comment is being taken too literally. The comment isn’t supposed to mean that he likes Karl Marx or something. He’s saying that he, as a capitalist, is benefiting the world, thus qualifying as a sort-of “good” socialist who is doing good for society.

If anything, his comment is a silent roast of traditional socialism because it moves resources “from most productive to least productive.” He’s attacking the notion that only traditional socialists care about general welfare.

You learn a lot more about a person from what they do than from what they say. Elon Musk is a mega-capitalist.
