This could also be true in her case - IRS is not fast. Same thing happened to me. Got the the letter and owed the principle + 8 months interest!!! My tax guy works via H&R block and I paid the 80 bucks for insurance - thought it was wasted money but they covered all of it since they made the mistake. I was pleasantly surprised.
That, and frankly she may be broke. Despite her salary, she lives in a luxury rental, buys expensive cloths, watches, etc. Ever see her in the same outfit twice? She likely had student loans and prior debt. Her net worth is $0 or perhaps negative. She’s not had this job long and income taxes plus high state/city tax take a huge chunk of that before she even sees it. Instead of living within her means and saving - she - like many likely blew her money and 2k is a lot of money to her.
She is waiting for 10 years for it to be forgiven..it is in the tax code..Buh its a business...I am a person...buhhhhh...that is the tactic of people who say the laws are for thee but not for me.
The people who lament the rich for not paying more in taxes are the same people who often have unpaid tax liabilities. It's a curious paradox at first blush, but when you consider their philosophical underpinnings it makes perfect sense.
They're not responsible for their actions. You are. And you're responsible for your own. That's why they deserve leadership positions. Or something.
AOC, a first-term incumbent, will face Democratic voters in the June 23 primary in the 14th Congressional District covering portions of the Bronx and Queens.
Didn't realize they were coming up so soon. A little sad to think that Occasional-Cortex might not be around much longer to entertain us.
I commend in this thread that she likely does not have much money but she also make be taking cues from her peers - don’t pay, let it grow and the IRS will eventually cut you a deal...2k seems like a small amount though. She also may have forgot or the bill came a year latter - IRS loves to do that and only communicates through the mail.
It’s $2000.00, why wouldn’t she just pay it!?
Because like a good Democrat, she believes that only others should have to pay taxes, and that other people are never paying ENOUGH taxes, anyway.
Seriously. One time I messed up my taxes and found out I owed $3000 two years later. I bitched about theft, but I paid it.
When lt comes to any tax l bitch about theft. Its mandatory for being a libertarian.
Taxation isn't theft, it's extortion.

"Taxes are for little people." -- whatshername
Edit: Leona Helmsley in 2003 who really said "only the little people pay taxes."
Came here to post Leona's quote!!!
She probably thinks "I'm in congress, it goes back to me anyhow, I'm just cutting out the middle-xir"

Unfortunately, the factory that produces tiny violins is closed due to Corona virus lockdown.
LOL - I would argue they are essential in this particular scenario.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why wouldn't she pay it once she made her 174,000 a year?
Remember, she needs a raise. Thats not enough.
^ this right here

Exactly this.

When she got her bill
She thought that the UN was paying it for her.

How about, if you are not up to date on your taxes you should not be able to run for public office.
or vote
Seems appropriate, given she has the mind of a seven year old.

She won’t pay it and nothing will happen to her. I’ll take that bet. Democrats are scum.
