Hello Frens,
Pepe is looking to acquire a firearm to protect himself, Pepina, and their tadpoles. Thing is, he doesn't really know where to start. He's gone to the range with frens in the past and fired off a few rounds, but with a pending b00g it's time to protect his own and hone his marksmanship skill.
Where should Pepe start? Budget is around $1,000 for the time being.
spez: Thanks for all the suggestions - Pepe has a lot of research in his future! He's going to look up every type of firearm posted in this thread!
I shotgun, 1 pistol, ammo, cleaning supplies.
Mossberg 500 12ga shotgun
9mm pistol. Glock 19 is great. Get used if you can - they’re very expensive new.
Every Pepe need a Winchester 870 shotgun. Home defense. Good start.
It's illegal to own a gun in my country :(
The older and wiser I get, there more I realize the freedom of the world, for large part rests on the freedom of the American people. And their freedom ultimately rest on their constitutional rights of free speech, freedom of assembly, and the right to bear arms.
I want to thank every pede out there who's standing up for their constitutional rights. Your own stance, and that of others with you ultimately shine a beacon of light throughout a dark world which still suffers from too much oppression.
My favorite gun if I ever get one:

Pick a gun you want to shoot. The one you practice with will serve you better than a dusty arsenal in your closet.
I was going to suggest 10 Hi-Points but your suggestion is good too.
Sage advice. Thanks, fren.
