I am going to say something I have always thought, but it was not popular in these circles. Most police I have ever met or interacted with are mindless idiots with an IQ of around 80.
From my experience, it depends on the state (duh!) and the type of interaction. E.g. 10 mph over the 50 mph speed limit on a highway in AZ will likely result in a very traumatic conversation with an officer, and the same violation in CA won't even be noticed.
The use of force seemingly did become much more habitual over the years though -- but that's just my perception, I don't have any data.
Some folks in the gun community (e.g. Yankee Marshal on YouTube) have been trying to warn people specifically about revering police for a while.
Most officers in the US are decent people, but that has pretty much nothing to do with their duties.
They are going to be the ones fulfilling their superiors' orders. They will go door-to-door to confiscate guns. They will enforce and arrest.
I truly hope many will not comply with blatantly unconstitutional orders -- but that will not prevent those who will from doing what they were ordered.
Been trying to preach this for years. The false notion that most cops are good, and will go against orders and lose their income to uphold the Constitution is asinine.
Excellent hearing, pede! I couldn't make out what she said. That makes total sense -- it is incredibly hard to breathe in the NYC subway in the summer.
What. The. Fuck.
The United States needs an intervention.

JUST smart enough to obey orders blindly

Are all cops bad? No.
Are all cops good? No.
Cops are people, nothing more and nothing less.
Unbelievable Gestapo brutality because she dared pull her mask down to breathe. What a cesspool NY has become

Black woman tackled and abused by group of armed and dangerous white men.
That'd be the headline if those guys weren't cops. And they'd all be in jail now. Oh, not to mention the violation of social distancing they all did.
