He went from being overly censored while maintaining that edge to becoming free and selling out. Worst thing he ever did was that deal; he lost his edge in terms of people testing him and his show wasn't as tight. Then Lange left and it just went down ever since.
Running his first wife Allison off was dumb as well.. he alienated her on purpose to the point where she couldn't take it anymore and she got a ton of money out of him. It just makes Private Parts so jarring to watch now as he bragged about her like crazy but let her go like nothing.
Maybe psychologically that is what he is doing to his listeners now. He is intentionally trying to destroy his own show by insulting the very people that made his show what it was and supported him over the years.
