Don't forget that once a person touches their face or the mask the effectiveness goes to zero. And the moisture buildup increases the chance of infection and debris attachment. Reminds me of that scene in HBO's Chernobyl when they are trying to convince the coal miners to install equipment under the reactor and use masks as a means of making them feel safe. Coal miner boss throws it back at them saying "if these worked you'd be wearing them"
Proper use of medical grade masks do prevent the transmission of disease. But that's not what's happening right now.
People are wearing non-medical masks. They are doing it around others with no indication of disease or possibility of extreme close contact. They are not changing out masks every 1-2 hours. They are constantly readjusting and touching their faces. It's a complete farce.
