We need a national sales tax NOW, and not 15% either. FedGov can have 5% of retail sales (which are about 6 trillion), or about $300 billion annually. Anything above that, states take over. Eliminate 90% of Fedgov, with its waste, fraud, and abuse.

Not compared to the current utter disaster. Really clues one in to the fact that most of the government is worthless and could be removed.

Teleworking for most govt employees means maybe checking your email twice a day, not responding, just checking. Oh and the government employees knew they'd go back to work soon, receive backpay even though they weren't working and bonus, they got to whine and cry on broadcast news for at least two hours a day. We saw how hard it was that they had to put their mortgage on a credit card or that they had to have a weekend get-a-away instead of a trip to Europe because they might get called back to work etc. All they did was whine and cry and say how horrible they had it... knowing they'd be back to work within a month and get back pay. Heck, they didn't even have to give a single vacation day or personal day. IN fact, Government employees never give a vacation day or personal day and that's on top of getting every single Federal Holiday off like Memorial Day, MLK Jr Day etc. Also, they all got their Federal Government Union guaranteed raises - one for just managing to work another year and one for gaining more seniority and one for being promoted to the same position they already had.
Meanwhile, those whiners do not care that private sector businesses are going under. They don't care that we put our mortgages on credit cards with no expectation of backpay. We won't get any personal or vacation days or Federal holidays when we go back to work. Many of us, maybe even most of us, are going to get a pay cut.
Let me tell you all something about Federal Workers and their unions.....they are against us and the private sector. They think they are the hardest working most underpaid saints that ever lived. For generations, unions, especially government unions, have been peddling a narrative that government workers are all over worked and underpaid and they are super duper essential to the lives of Americans. I'm telling you right now. They are way overpaid and barely do any work and we could half the government workforce if we got rid of Government unions and productivity would INCREASE.
Government workers get way more benefits than the average American worker and it's not just limited to cadillac healthcare plans. There's tons of fringe benefits as well. They are way overpaid for their qualifications and their raises and promotions are automatic. If they don't get a raise, promotion or a new benefit (health or otherwise) every two years, they whine and cry like babies.
There is no reason for Government unions. Private sector unions exist for the sake of protecting laborers from exploitation by profit seeking owners and investors and from really bad managers. Private sector unions formed because there's a reason why private sector business would exploit a workers. Now, ask yourself this...who is the owner/investor or manager following a "capitalists' orders" in the public sector with government workers...that's right, no one. In fact, elected representatives, unions and government employees collude with each other to screw taxpayers every single time a government union negotiates with elected representatives. Ya know who is not at the table - the taxpayer and private businesses. We're the cash cow for them and they really don't care what effect their greed has on the economy.
In the economic crash of 2008, only two places in the U.S. continued to make money and churn out newly minted millionaires and the average income went up - Silicon Valley and Washington D.C. and surrounding communities.
Government employees are not selfless individuals who care about the public good and general welfare of the nations.
