Probably the greatest lie the US has bought into is believing that "made in USA" = expensive.
Bic lighters - one of the cheapest of all consumer products - are made in the USA.
Meanwhile, reportedly a N95 mask made in China costs $0.30; a USA made N95 costs $0.34.
The reason companies outsourced to China is not to "save money for US consumers"; it was to increase their profit margin while charging the consumer the same price.
That was regurgitated by the SHARKS on Shark Tank aka China Tank for years. All those cheap ass products that people brought in were mostly outsourced to be made in China.
Unfortunately, the most glaring problem right now is that "Made in USA" can't even be trusted anymore, because the Federal government is loaded with asshoe's on Xi Jingpooh's payroll that look the other way when a Chinese front company is established here on US soil and slaps "Made in USA" on products that they import from their homeland.
Just because it says "Made in USA", doesn't mean it's actually made, or even assembled, here in the US.
There are several markers that expose a company as a front for Chinese imports, but the problem is that they involve analysis of marketing and business practices that go beyond what the general public has the capacity, or more importantly the will, to learn.
Of note: I have gone through the process of reporting a few companies that I came across that were doing this. That was three years ago. Those companies are still in business, still selling on Amazon, ebay, etc., and still claiming "Made in USA".
The reason companies outsourced to China is not to "save money for US consumers"; it was to increase their profit margin while charging the consumer the same price.
Not just that, though. It was also a necessary step in destroying the ability of American families to provide for themselves, especially without having both people in a relationship working full time, and to drive down wages in general.
Also another big lie is buying union is patriotic. Unions are a communist construct and hamper companies. Best thing I ever did was quit the fuck8ng union. That is when I started making serious bank. Hired tons of guys away. In my union we had production quotas which were way below what we could actually do. An arrificial work slowdown increasing the cost of everything. I built my business exploiting the unions weaknesses.
Not all BIC lighters are made in USA. Some china, india. BIC lighters are the best lighters though by far. Always reliable compared to those see through pos lighters.
Yea thats the hard part. Even if you have something made in the US, are the parts from China? Are the parts that made the parts from China? The packaging it came in? Good luck, but I guess try to do your best.
The issue isn't you as a consumer buying american made. It's all the components and bulk purchases made by international corporations that have shifted production from the US to China, often as a way for them to buy into the Asian market.
We need to force American companies to buy American. If the companies aren't loyal to American why do we sacrifice so much to host them in our country, defend their intellectual property rights, give them a safe place to store their money and so forth. This is exactly what China does to companies that want to do business in China.
The government forces us to pay taxes, forces us to follow inefficient regulations that make us uncompetitive, so why should we let foreign owned companies have access to our markets.
The fact even Bloomberg's willing to publish it means the CCP really is screwed: their power to keep Western consumers coming back with cheap shit was one of their very last cards, and now Americans - and very likely others all across the world - have had enough of even that, China's days or insidiously sliding their tendrils into the global economy might just be coming to an end, and not a moment too soon :)
Amazon sells a ton of Chinese counterfeits. Sorting by Made in USA does nothing. The platform does NOTHING about bogus product descriptions, bogus reviews and counterfeit and IP violations.
Nice, I use amazon until I find a product. Then I will try that products direct website.
Unless I know exactly what I am shopping for then I just skip amazon. But for normal daily shit, we have to admit it is really great. Even though Bezos is a fucking criminal.
Etsy, eBay and other platforms are out there. There are almost zero options that are true patriot- this is the difficult part unless you can mobilize your business locally.
I’ve preordered Glenn Beck stuff for friends on Amazon but am taking a hard pass.
In Clay, NY they’re building the worlds 2nd biggest warehouse for Amazon getting some great tax grease to create few jobs for a robotics fulfillment center. This model doesn’t uncouple us from China- it brings us closer.
We will see soon how Amazon is working like GE did to undermine US industry and working wholly with the China model.
That would reach that many people? Not many, I would personally prefer the evil 'N' word here (nationalize) but for now, it isn't in the cards and the small businesses need it.
If we "nationalized" an online website with zero charge, that would be best. Zero control from the globalist corporatsions.
But we have to be real, amazon allows a lot of small businesses to have a much wider reach. Period
Here is how it will work: (JUST LIKE SLAVERY & Cotton)
If you eliminate the slave labor, then the price of products will increase for a while. That increase in price will stimulate "Mother Necessity", and she will figure out a way to make things cheaper and better.
Removing China's slave labor from products will drive innovation, resulting in better, cheaper, less environmental impact products.
THEY do not know how terrible the economy has really gotten since the 03 invasion(war inflation) and the REAL damage of the financial crash.
Do people here honestly think that most companies actually like having their manufacturing overseas?...
the "78%" can blame themselves for voting for politicians that have implemented terrible policies that have made business so terrible the this country.
Also, 80% of people supported the war in Iraq...do they have regret for wasting the economy on a deleterious strife?
I already am being more aware of where my products come from. I end up buying less dumb shit and using the money saved to buy quality American made products I actually do need.
The pay more thing is also a canard in a certain way. Let me explain: 1) It wouldn't be like items would be a hundred or so dollars more expensive. It's that items maybe one or two dollars more expensive at most. 2) Also, the items would be of better quality and their manufacturing wouldn't be as damaging to the environment both on land and water. 3) With more Americans working at manufacturing jobs, there would be more tax revenue, and most importantly, more money circulating in our economy. Every dollar that circulates in the private sector, generates more wealth. This isn't true of government dollars which tend to decrease in value after circulating through the government. Our economy would start booming if we brought these jobs back.
The only thing we have to do in order to get this ball rolling is refuse to buy cheap stuff from China and look for the MADE IN AMERICA label. okay, well we also have to make sure the Made in America label is accurate.
If you're a patriot, buy American and insist on American products.
Been saying this for years. I’ve never made a lot per hour.
I can’t afford cheap clothes, shoes, work boots, kids clothes. Etc
I had a NASCAR 2000 schedule t shirt. Good made Carheart. Paid $35 at Talladega that year. Demoted to work shirt five years ago, thrown out two years ago.
Buy chinaeeze $6 “Floot of de loom” and it’s unraveling in 6-8 months. Never makes it a full year. (And half the damn time has no shirt pocket🤬)
There are two things I check on every tag before I buy something: price and where it's made. Most tech-related and plastic stuff is all made in China, but I've noticed in the last year or so that fewer clothes are--lots shifted to India, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
Yeah, I'd much rather have products made in America, employing Americans, instead of the corporations shipping the jobs overseas to be worked by borderline slaves if it meant I might have to pay a little more.

I've never seen one a Bic in the US made in China or India, in 20 years of using them.
I've seen USA, France, and Spain - all of which are first world countries with comparable production costs.
Yea thats the hard part. Even if you have something made in the US, are the parts from China? Are the parts that made the parts from China? The packaging it came in? Good luck, but I guess try to do your best.

Level the playing field.
Yes, provide incentives, like access to our markets and banking systems.
The government forces us to pay taxes, forces us to follow inefficient regulations that make us uncompetitive, so why should we let foreign owned companies have access to our markets.
Same thing with foreigners being able to own land and property here. Shouldn't be allowed at all.
Agreed. Again i dont know when we decided america was a financial play ground for hostile foreigners
The incentives are the force. Like tarrifs, if you can't make all the extra money low tarrifs bring then you move closer to the market.
If it breaks after the first use its probably ch8na
But more American goods, your neighbor has more money. Which makes them buy more from your company. Which makes you have more money.
Just did today. I bought jeans made right here in America.
American clothing company.

Aren't Whirlpool and Maytag still manufactured in the US?
I don't need appliances yet, but I want to buy something that's easy to get parts for so I can fix it myself.
Talk is cheap. Uncouple from Amazon, Netflix and the ‘blue chip’ bullshit globalist garbage.
All due respect, Bezo is the fuck of all fuck's but a lot of American companies make a living off Amazon.
Just sort by "made in America", Netflix is definitely garbage.
Amazon sells a ton of Chinese counterfeits. Sorting by Made in USA does nothing. The platform does NOTHING about bogus product descriptions, bogus reviews and counterfeit and IP violations.
^this.
What American companies that make a living off of Amazon could NOT use another Distributor?
They perpetuate the China-love supply chain, rape the failing USPS, WP, they sold books to lesbian teachers for fucks sake <that’s the initial model
We don’t need Amazon. Most folks can make it without them- many will not make it because of them.
Well, Etsy is a thing, even if it's full of hippies.
I primarily use Amazon to buy conservative books. I probably drive them nuts. ;)
Nice, I use amazon until I find a product. Then I will try that products direct website.

Who were the other 22%?
Still a good sign. That means most Democrats and all Republicans.
Cucks.
Legal immigrants and minorities, both groups vote 90% left for life.
Raise the tariffs. Buy American!
I am the 78%
I like my women how I like my guns: 100% American Made
THEY do not know how terrible the economy has really gotten since the 03 invasion(war inflation) and the REAL damage of the financial crash.
Do people here honestly think that most companies actually like having their manufacturing overseas?...
the "78%" can blame themselves for voting for politicians that have implemented terrible policies that have made business so terrible the this country.

I'd say about 98% of the people have been manipulated by the media.
I want an American made lawn mower made with Fuel Cells. I'd pay extra for that. Not these POS ones that are low quality over reviewed horseshit.
I already am being more aware of where my products come from. I end up buying less dumb shit and using the money saved to buy quality American made products I actually do need.

I'd pay double, fuck China
Harbor freight is going to go out of business.
Umm hell ya I would, fuck China
I'd be willing to pay more taxes if they were used to nuke China.
Talk is cheap though, gotta put our money where our mouth is now.
Very nice.
People will say one thing and do another. Raw materials are sourced from a 100 countries. It would need to say assembled in the USA.
How much more should have been part of the question. Facially it's a terrible question.
Already have. Also, made in America doesn't have to mean more expensive.
Been saying this for years. I’ve never made a lot per hour. I can’t afford cheap clothes, shoes, work boots, kids clothes. Etc

I’ll take quality every time!
I have the opposite problem. Finding good quality shirts without the shirt pocket.
I’ll pay more for better products. I don’t want the same cheap shit, just made here.
I’ll pay more if it’s made in America!
There are two things I check on every tag before I buy something: price and where it's made. Most tech-related and plastic stuff is all made in China, but I've noticed in the last year or so that fewer clothes are--lots shifted to India, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
