Probably the greatest lie the US has bought into is believing that "made in USA" = expensive.
Bic lighters - one of the cheapest of all consumer products - are made in the USA.
Meanwhile, reportedly a N95 mask made in China costs $0.30; a USA made N95 costs $0.34.
The reason companies outsourced to China is not to "save money for US consumers"; it was to increase their profit margin while charging the consumer the same price.
That was regurgitated by the SHARKS on Shark Tank aka China Tank for years. All those cheap ass products that people brought in were mostly outsourced to be made in China.
Unfortunately, the most glaring problem right now is that "Made in USA" can't even be trusted anymore, because the Federal government is loaded with asshoe's on Xi Jingpooh's payroll that look the other way when a Chinese front company is established here on US soil and slaps "Made in USA" on products that they import from their homeland.
Just because it says "Made in USA", doesn't mean it's actually made, or even assembled, here in the US.
There are several markers that expose a company as a front for Chinese imports, but the problem is that they involve analysis of marketing and business practices that go beyond what the general public has the capacity, or more importantly the will, to learn.
Of note: I have gone through the process of reporting a few companies that I came across that were doing this. That was three years ago. Those companies are still in business, still selling on Amazon, ebay, etc., and still claiming "Made in USA".

Not just that, though. It was also a necessary step in destroying the ability of American families to provide for themselves, especially without having both people in a relationship working full time, and to drive down wages in general.
Also another big lie is buying union is patriotic. Unions are a communist construct and hamper companies. Best thing I ever did was quit the fuck8ng union. That is when I started making serious bank. Hired tons of guys away. In my union we had production quotas which were way below what we could actually do. An arrificial work slowdown increasing the cost of everything. I built my business exploiting the unions weaknesses.
Not all BIC lighters are made in USA. Some china, india. BIC lighters are the best lighters though by far. Always reliable compared to those see through pos lighters.

I've never seen one a Bic in the US made in China or India, in 20 years of using them.
I've seen USA, France, and Spain - all of which are first world countries with comparable production costs.
