You're all making good points about illegals having DLs. Fair. But in that case state agencies like the DMV being backed up are illegal. If you want federal ID, everyone can use their passport. It's easy enough to get one.
This is assuming people don't already have state issued IDs. Do you know a single person who doesn't have a state issued ID?

Some states hand them out like candy, then auto register people to vote. With NO validation of citizenship.

Passports cost money though. I don't think you should have to pay for something that is mandated from the government
