Slavery was a key reason for the civil war. The lie that gets told is that it was ONLY about slavery.
More people died in the Civil War than every US soldier death in every war up through the vietnam war. That many people don't fight and die just for slavery.
It was local government versus a federal government that was the biggest key issue.
South wanted to manage their individual affairs of business, school, and governing. North wanted to control every aspect of those things.
History books are written by the victors...north made it seem like the south were villians, but they were a small band of patriots who wanted to govern themselves.
