Nobody's defending what happened - but you can see the average german was reluctant. The germans had to kill 50,000 of their own soldiers for acts of insubordination. (by comparison, the US executed ~200 of their own soldiers during ww2)

I'd recommend a book on the Einsatzgruppen from one of my fave authors who won a pulitzer for chronicling the Manhattan project - but it's probably the most depressing book I've ever read. I mean it's PTSD levels of depressing.

I think anyone who grew up in a diverse area witnessed black on white racial violence. But it's all a big secret we're told to look the other way and forget.
We even had black on asian racial violence. Only the Hispanics would fight back and that led to constant race wars.
In the Netflix show Mindhunters, I watched about 2-3 episodes. In the first or second episode a suspect has killed 2 old women. When the 2 detectives are conversing they say "black and hispanic males would have too much respect for elderly" and profiling that a white male was the most likely person to kill an elderly person.
