When I saw Lion Ted talking about this a few weeks ago, he specifically mentioned movies like Top Gun which filmed on military bases, and featured military equipment like fighter jets. The US government doesn't give Hollywood monetary assistance, but it allows them access to equipment and location for filming, and cutting off that relationship is what I think Senator Cruz means by no "longer assisting them".
thats what boggles my mind. a large swath of america already doesnt go to the movies that much anymore because of the propaganda and bullshit. That swath votes red. Now, their primary customer base is the useful idiots. But after the panic and fear Hollywood has helped create over this, none of them will want to go to the movies and even if they did they have to stay 6 feet apart, which will cut the amount of people able to be sat in each theater by probably 2/3 at least. Without some sort of subsidy or private funding, Hollywood goes tits up. The only studios left around are those that bow to the new and coming tech giants. Netflix and Hulu and their ilk.
Real interesting that China (TENCENT) was allowed to be involved in producing and filming a movie like Top Gun Maverick, wherein they had access to all kinds of military flying machines and how they behaved when flying under pressure.
Personally I don't like the Chinese government being involved in anything that gives them even a whiff of access to American military technology (even if some of it is decades old) or personnel.
Also the movie production removed the Japanese and Taiwan flags from Maverick's jacket to appease China.
