that could explain why black people seem to be at higher risk....

I'm on D at the moment because in the winter, my levels are in the toilet.

What do people with darker skin and old people locked up in nursing homes have in common? 🤔

I take vitamin D every day because I'm deficient. I take 5000 IU daily just to be within normal limits. And I'm someone that gets outside frequently. Just have the deficiency. Not "black" but have .04% african DNA. So, I guess I'm African German American.

.04%

So 1/2500?

If we round that up to 1/2048, it means ONE of your great great great great great great great great great grandparents was black.

Pretty sure you're just German American, Liz.

yeah, I thought about that but I didn't find out till years too late. I'm retired now and not looking for extra income. If only I had known though...

I'm Vitamin D deficient. Supplementing is hugely helpful but it's not as good as getting to spend an afternoon in actual sunlight.

I do:

5000 IUs daily in the winter, 2000 or so depending on sunlight exposure in the summer.

I do 2000 IUs year round.

I had to up my winter dose the last few years. I work in a factory on an off shift, it's hard to get up early enough to get any sunlight.
