I'm Vitamin D deficient. Supplementing is hugely helpful but it's not as good as getting to spend an afternoon in actual sunlight.

I do:

5000 IUs daily in the winter, 2000 or so depending on sunlight exposure in the summer.

I had to up my winter dose the last few years. I work in a factory on an off shift, it's hard to get up early enough to get any sunlight.
