Individually each fact isn't damning, but add them all up and it paints a picture of a corrupt politician having an affair with his intern, knocking her up, murdering her during a late night confrontation in his office, and fleeing the scene. The alibi and quick investigation are a classic cover-up to keep the lid on yet another democrat (correction: he was a Republican) congressional sexual scandal.
Don't forget the medical examiner had his license suspended twice and later completely revoked for falsifying medical records, and there were human remains found in his residence.

I'm not an expert on this material, but if I were I to open this cold case, I would start by examining closely everybody involved in the investigation including the investigators, and look for patterns of corrupt behavior like the medical examiner.
