From the article: “Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s lawsuit against the owner of the Edenville Dam... Nessel’s suit called for water to be added to Wixom Lake over the objection of the dam’s owner, who was concerned more water could lead to the dam’s failure.”

Looks like her lawsuit killed pretty much all of them too. Genius.

The dumb bitch was more worried about mussels than a dam failure. Feminism is cancer.

Nessel is the second openly gay person elected attorney general of a state in the United States (after Maura Healey of Massachusetts) as well as the first openly LGBTQ person elected to statewide office in Michigan. She is also the first Jewish person elected Attorney General of Michigan.

Now that is a triple threat in this year’s diversity olympics. 🥇🥈🥉

Now go clean up that water I made you put in your Dam causing it to break.

Why do they always have to share the LGBTQ stuff. The first openly LGBTQ person elected...it is so weird how they are into identity politics. Where does it end? This guy is the first person elected to the school board with gluten intolerance. And this lady is the first person ever elected to city council with a tramp stamp.

Honestly. Why is what they get off on such a big part of their identity? You never hear stuff like “first heterosexual chubby chaser elected to state government.”

LOL, A trailblazing Celiac-American is what the school board needs in these trying times!

Maura Healey of Massachusetts

One of the reasons I left that state. That leftist carpet-muncher just usurped the authority to make gun laws and declared a whole class of rifles "assault weapons" The guys who guard the nuclear power plants had to find somewhere out of state to train. While she's doing that, the state police were running an overtime scam that cost taxpayers millions.

Day-yum that state is f**ked up.

Following the federal government's 2018 license revocation, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) took oversight of the dam.[11] EGLE determined that the dam was structurally sound.[12] Edenville and the other former Boyce dams were taken over in 2019 by the Four Lakes Task Force, a county delegated authority,[13][14][15] with title to transfer in early 2022.[16] The State of Michigan appropriated $5 million for the purchase.[17][18] The Four Lakes Task Force operates under the Four Lakes Assessment District in the State of Michigan,[15] created in May 2019 by Judge Stephen Carras. In 2019, Michigan's 42nd Circuit Court was involved in determining if only the lakefront owners or all area residents would pay tax to the Four Lakes Assessment District.[19]

In October 2018, and again in mid-November 2019, the dam's operator lowered the water level, in what it called "a safety move." It said it had requested a permit to lower the level from Michigan's EGLE, a permit that was not issued. The operator said it acted “due to concern for the safety of its operators and the downstream community,” and went on to sue EGLE in federal court, alleging "its safety concerns were paramount."[20][21]

In December 2019, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a permit to investigate expanding the hydropower plant with a second powerhouse containing one 1.2 MW turbine-generator unit for a total of 6 MW.[22]

The dam's operator said it began to raise the lake's water level in April 2020, under threat of being sued by Michigan's EGLE, and that it reached "normal pond level" in the first week of May. Michigan's Attorney General confirmed EGLE had directed the operator to raise the water level, stating: "Michigan EGLE directed Boyce to follow the court-ordered lake level requirements," but challenged that the operator had lowered it for safety reasons.[23]

In April 2020, EGLE sued Boyce, alleging it had lowered the water level without permission in 2018 and 2019, killing thousands of freshwater mussels.[24][25][26][27]

The frustrating part is that if any of the residents go to court over this it’ll probably be seen by a Granholm appointed judge who’ll feel the life of the mussels WAS more important than those people’s homes.

Michigan judges are elected on a "non partisan" basis. Whitmer has appointed zero.

MI-MAGAgirl [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah they are called “non-partisan” but I don’t believe they are. I have a friend on Facebook who’s husband is a judge. She posts liberal/anti-Trump constantly. Because of that I’d never vote for her husband. Also, I’m pretty sure it was Whitmer who appointed a judge in my county to fill a vacancy.

The government is corrupted. Every government has massive rot. Everything the government touches turns to shit.

Only fix is a massively scaled down govt like Ayn Rand and Ron/Rand Paul said. Our own governments are destroying us...

How the fuck does blocking foia requests during a pandemic make any sense for a health emergency? Like what the fuck is the actual "Power" of state of emergency? Because it certainly seems like every motherfucking cop, legislator, judge, everyone in govt just shrugs and lets the governors do whatever they want

Legislators gave extremely broad powers, because they did not know what emergencies would entail, and assumed executives would act in good faith. The Michigan law says "After making the proclamation or declaration, the governor may promulgate reasonable orders, rules, and regulations as he or she considers necessary to protect life and property or to bring the emergency situation within the affected area under control." It provides exactly one limit, which is that the governor cannot take guns or ammunition under an order.

I could imagine (for example) if the people that respond to FOIA requests are also involved in solving ongoing problems, it could be reasonable to suspend their obligation to respond until they no longer have any role in the ongoing emergency. If that were happening, it would've been good that the legislature gave such broad powers.

I think the best remedy will be voting abusive executives out, rather than trying to narrowly tailor an emergency act to account for every situation ever, but the way of government is to respond too much, and too late to every problem, so I'm not hopeful.

Government needs to stop being tasked with solving every crisis. From homelessness to crime to fixing this caronavirus outbreak. The government isn't capable of fixing shit, but citizens with a sense of community and responsibility can. Instead, all the money we could each be using to solve problems (philanthropy) is being paid to the government so they can do a shitty job of attempting to.

And give foreign aid to countries then demand they contribute to their foundation or employee their children to do nothing for big $$$

3
Dialectic 3 points ago +3 / -0

No I think it's clear that all of these governors need their emergency powers reduced by a lot. Our whole system of govt is designed with mistrust of govt, not trust in their potential good faith.

Notice that clickondetroit used a pic of a flooded camping spot somewhere and not any of the pics of the houses and streets underwater. I wonder why they did that?
