Well science has been a little full of itself lately, too. Maybe they shouldn’t publish so many shit studies, and make them out to be more meaningful than they are.
What the left doesn't understand is that a guy in a lab coat making predictions and forming opinions, or doing a one-off study is not how we get a scientific theory. They don't even understand the difference between a hypothesis and a theory, much less the process for getting from one to the other.
Their authoritarian bent makes them particularly susceptible to the argument from authority fallacy. Opinions are still just opinions, even when they come from a scientist.
The "science" is not on anyone's side when it comes to these lockdowns, or the virus, or hydroxychloroquine or anything related to this pandemic.
The virus hasn't existed long enough to develop any real concrete scientific knowledge on it. All we have are a bunch of opinions from guys in lab coats, and all we can do is just try and balance the risks as best we can with the limited knowledge we have.
Yes and no -- the result is definitely the same. Unsurprisingly, we've done a lot of research on related viruses, and most of that knowledge should apply to this one. Once we show that this virus has specific attributes (The fact that it travels aerosolized, for example), we should be able to take very good guesses as to what it would do under certain circumstances.
The problem is, we (Read: people making outlandish doomsday predictions) aren't applying that previous knowledge, we're starting at "We know absolutely nothing and will just assume the worst," which is not helpful to making real world decisions. Even better, we're making the wrong assumptions from the beginning (Masks are effective, reinfection is 100% guaranteed, any contact with the virus is infection, etc), and making policy decisions -- despite the fact that either there's overwhelming previous literature negating that specific null hypothesis, or no evidence showing otherwise in 50+ years of research.
It's like people heard the word "novel" and just completely threw out the rulebook, then made up how things work. Or, more likely -- our education system has gone to crap in the last 50 years, and no one has a basic grasp on biology anymore.
Have we ever done large scale experiments with viruses that involved locking down most of the country and keeping everyone in their homes? Have we studied the effects on peoples immune system and herd immunity when mass isolation happens like that? How many people are really infected? How many deaths can actually be attributed to the virus? Where did this virus come from? A lab or a wet market?
We can't answer any of those questions right now, and that's why I'm saying no one really has science on their side here. What we're doing is unprecedented.
Also the 'science' never tells you what the right answer is. It tells you what the least wrong answer available to the scientist is. These answers change over and over as more information is revealed. Nothing is ever set in stone. We even teach theories we know are wrong but because they work in 99% of cases and are easier to understand, we use them as a stepping stone for people who wouldn't otherwise get anything.
The problem is that people equate statistics with science but they are NOT the same.
Statistics without context can be skewed to say anything the publisher wants, and people just blindly believe and repeat them without doing any further research.
LIke creating a CGI animation of an airplane crash or train crash, and not having any investigative data behind it. Then show it to a bunch of lemmings and say "this is how happened." They'll believe it because, well it's animated, looks professional so it much be legit!
"If everyone's poor, then everyone will be equal. In some countries, only some people starve to death instead of everyone starving to death. Isn't everyone dying a better alternative to only some people dying?"
Science has lost all meaning thanks to the Left

Ah, but the autistic screeching of Swedish teenagers is simply too compelling for them to deny.

how else are social studies majors supposed to get their degrees?
Learn to code?
Hey now, with a degree in CS, I can 100% confirm that most social studies majors could not complete a degree which involves coding.
Maybe they should just learn to ask good questions, like "Do you want fries with that?"
What, you don’t see value in giving honey bees cocaine?!

VOX uses some of the best motion graphic design in the industry. It's so beautiful, it must be correct!

Gender is a spectrum! Cut your dick off and pump your kids with hormones! I love science!
Your son doesn't like "boy toys?" He must not be a boy, hurr durr.
The Left: "Gender stereotypes are bad."
Also the Left: "If your son likes frozen she must be chemically castrated, bigot."
It's a bludgeon they will use to push policy. They live in a bubble and don't take other factors into account when deciding that policy.
