The word science has been corrupted to mean an elitist principle that only a select few are privy to while the rest of us wallow in our own stupidity. In reality science is an empirical logic that anyone is capable of. I said it before and I’ll say it again, “the humble reasoning of a single man is worth the authority of thousands” (Galileo, I think)

only the priests could read, so any knowledge of God was filtered through their motives. when in reality everyone could learn to read and understand the scriptures.
In particular, the canon was kept in Latin, which only the priestly class could read. This was for the express purpose of keeping liturgical analysis out of the hands of the common folk.

They used to think life came would just sprint out of regular stuff. Like maggots would just grow out of meat. We later learned that eggs so small we couldn't see them were being laid by flies.
We used to think vision worked via invisible seeing eye lasers. That sickness was caused by an imbalance of the humors.
Science is about the process. You don't trust scientists, you read their papers, think critically. You replicate their experiments to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Science is about having ideas, then proving those ideas. You trust the process.
