Pretty sure the president can’t control how states handle elections. That’s a very distinct limit on his powers, iirc. I would love to see Voter ID, because it’s desperately needed to limit corruption, but I worry about the second-order effects of that expansion of presidential powers

He can't tell them how to run state elections, but he could have say in Federal level ones.

Okay, that’s fair. How does that work then with the electoral college where a state election chooses where electoral votes go? Is that considered a state election where he has power, or a federal?

No he can't. Federal elections are elections of sovereign states, and not directly an election of the people within that state.

The people vote for their state representatives. The representatives vote in federal elections. That's how the Constitution lays it out.

The only way to implement voter ID is through an amendment to the Constitution.

Instead, he should send all these foreigners home so they can no longer vote 90% left in those elections.

I actually think this issue is large enough that it DOES require a Constitutional amendment.

  1. Federal ID required in ALL federal and state elections
  2. Ballot harvesting is outlawed
  3. Mail in voting is outlawed except in cases where it is verified that voter is unable to be physically present at voting booth (military, disabled, sick, etc.)

ALL federal elections are controlled by FEderal govt.

The states send electors. The electors are determined by the states - voting for the electors isn't really required, although no state dares to just appoint them directly.

He should since its a federal election. Not a state election.

A federal election is an election where states vote, not individuals within the state.

You vote for representatives of your state. Your representatives vote in federal elections however they wish.

No, that's not how it works. Just because "federal" is in the name doesn't mean Trump has absolute dictatorial power to make up whatever election rules he wants. That's insane and reveals your extremely poor understanding of... anything to do with politics.

Read the fucking Constitution.

The point is once your nation begins to divide itself one must as president to make a decision on which way the nation should go. Lincoln by reason of being on the defense end , attacked and destroyed the Confederate states.

The Democrats created the Confederate States and now the Democrats have made a tresspass or breach in power as governors. Time for president to take full control and

Clean House

The Democrats threw that out the window with their most recent bill that allows mail in voting across the country and gets rid of all voter id. The Democrats have shown that it is now OK for the federal government to manage elections.

This might be a shock to you, but Congress and the presidency do not have the same powers.

Democrats in Congress can rightfully propose and enact legislation to do many, many things that Trump cannot do on his own.

The President also doesn't have the authority to grant work permits to people in the country illegally and yet we have DACA.

Trump has the same pen and phone that Obama had.
