The droplets carrying the covid are so small they pass straight through surgical masks and clothing.

The point of wearing masks is less about protecting the person wearing it and more about protecting those around them.

Do you have a problem with handwashing? Using sanitizer? They aren't 100% fool proof, but it reduces infection rate. Same with using a mask in the appropriate setting. Wearing a mask while in crowded indoor areas is just a good idea, during a pandemic, during flu season, any time there's reasonable concern for spreading an airborne pathogen.

Going forward, this is a good idea to do and not a whole lot to ask for. Grocery shopping during a severe flu season? Wear a mask for those 30 mins. Use the bathroom? wash your hands afterwords. There's an active epidemic in the globe? Be extra mindful of hand hygiene and wear a mask when in crowds. It's not a lot to ask, stop making it a political statemant.

Literally, the only thing being asked of you is a few minutes of being mildly uncomfortable for the small percentage of chance of preventing someone around you from falling seriously ill. That's not a lot to ask, don't be so selfish.
