Another flip-flop in the stance of leftists. I guess it must be hard for them to defend emotion-based logic not based in reality. If you can even call it 'logic.'
I am in Massachusetts where they are “required” but I have figured out what stores will be really bitchy about it in Watch ones won’t. One local grocery chain basically put a sign up and says the state says you have to wear a mask please do so but makes no attempt to stop anybody who walks in and shop without one.
Still plenty of Karen’s in my area who will say the mask will not prevent them from breathing in coronavirus and getting it from someone else, but somehow the mask will stop you from giving it to someone. I’m sorry, but if a mask will allow you to inhale coronavirus which is a microscopic organism it will not stop you from exhaling it and having it pass thru said mask.
Exactly. Even the very rational Tom Fitton called this who "pandemic" and these measures "an unprecedented EXPERIMENT" on Americans. They literally wanted to see how much they could control us--stay home, don't go to work, don't go out, wear a mask, no job, no shopping, no outdoor stuff, no groups, lock yourself up in your house. Remember, "lock down" is what happens in a prison.
Hypercapnia will only happen if you have some kind of underlying condition, like COPD. It primarily becomes an issue with particulate respirators like N95s, where it really does add airway resistance and guarantees extra airway dead space.
Surgical asks do reduce spread of particulate spray if coughing a lot, and it has been shown to reduce transmission of pathogens from yourself to other people. That being said, the CDC is telling the general public NOT to wear them. They only want cloth.
You're generally correct. It's not a good filter for small micron sizes, but it reduces the dispersion by physically slowing down an aerosolized spray that has been accelerated by a cough or sneeze. Basically, it catches larger droplets and slows down the smaller sized particles. Instead of having a large radius of suspended particles, it's more confined around the source.
It's a marginal benefit at best for a virus, especially in close quarters with fans circulating air within the room.
Don't think that I'm actually advocating for people to wear surgical masks. I think they're pointless, especially with the terrible handling practices of the general population. It might help with a retard who would otherwise cough directly in my face with no mask, but that's about it.
Don't tell that to the covidiots here that seem to think a mask is anything more than a sign of obedience.
Docs are now warning prolonged use of masks causes HIGH RISK for bacterial pneumonia.

So far so good. I have yet to wear one. I'm in Georgia.

Make them give you one then wear it drooped down on your face with your nose & mouth uncovered. Or dangle it off one ear. Fuck em.

As a bonus, you get to inhale all the crap your lungs were trying to get rid of.

Im in new New Jersey and we have to wear one in every single store. This shit sucks especially now that its getting hot.

Not entirely correct. It does reduce initial dispersion of aerosolizing spray like when you cough or sneeze.

You might be confusing me with someone else. I didn't link you a study in this conversation yet.
I believe my claims to be accurate based on a number of recent studies though. This one basically said there wasn't a benefit from surgical masks except when placing it on sick patients to protect the well. I'd argue that's marginal, as I stated. Furthermore this one agrees with both of us regarding its ineffectiveness at filtering small particles.
Cloth should generally be considered garbage, as it has the potential to paradoxically increase infection.
