That’s what cloudflare does - guard against DDOS attacks. I’m no expert, but I think the way a DDOS works is by flooding the system with thousands of requests a second. The 5 second delay makes it very difficult to get enough requests in to bog down the system (for example, with a five second delay a 1,000 computer bot net would only be able to have 200 or less requests a second - not enough to grind us to a halt).
This is accurate. A router can only handle one request at a time per processor. So an attacker floods the routers with pings, connection requests, or simply asking the time or something, and ties up resources. This slows the site.
Cloudflare is a proxy service that the traffic relays through. They have better mitigation ability because that is their business. So there is someone on site to shunt all bot requests from the attack to nothingness. The size of the attack can give a hint as to how organized it is.
Mostly the fact that a reddit alternative maga site is attracting this paid for and organized shit suggests we are squarely over the target and dropping maga bombs right into the pink heart of the communist beast.
