Yeah, a lot of us are/were tired of the establishment in both parties who solely represented the interests of the so-called “elites”/big business. While the establishment of both the Republican and Democrat parties pretended to care about average American interests, they ruled solely as a uni-party.
Trump came along and gave the middle finger to the political establishment, and working to reform the government to be more average-American centric.
This has been a movement coming for a long time now on both sides. I first noticed the movement beginning on the conservative side during the GWB presidency. Where GWB governed in favor of the political establishment. The movement started to be more unified with the Tea Party during Obama’s term, and from there spread a lot more. The liberals have their own movement with Sanders ideology, but the Democrat political establishment has a lot more control of the party than the Republicans do of their own, so the liberal movement gets squashed. For example, the Democrats use of super delegates that prevented Sanders from moving forward in 2016, and again in 2020 with political establishment control.
I see so you're supporting Trump so that he may turn the American government back into a system that is more for the common Amercian then the Elite ?
Doesn't it bother you then that Trump is an Elite himself then ?
And that he clearly has taken multiple actions that make allot of money for himself ?
I really support your view that the government should be for the people, sadly we have the same problem in Belgium, the government here rather helps the elite as well.
But I have a hard time believing Trump is non-elitist.
Can you tell me why you think differently ?
Yes, we want the government to protect the interests of all Americans, not just the so-called “elite”.
I couldn’t careless that Trump is rich. Being rich in of itself isn’t a bad thing. I strive myself to be wealthy, and it would be hypocritical for me to dislike someone just because they have more money than me. I care more about the actions that a person takes in government, and Trump has done a tremendous job of putting American citizens first as a priority, and not just the “elites” interests. He could be poor as dirt or richer than Gates, it doesn’t matter to me, what matters to me is how the person governs.
I think Europe in general is very different to the USA in its political culture (Europeans/Americans in general, are very similar in other cultural aspects), because of thousands of years of history that has taken place there. Europe has a long history, going from Emperor’s, to Monarchies, to parliamentary governments, to now a more central government with the EU. That is a lot of time for wealth to be accumulated by particular families and power to be retained in those families. Whereas, the US we are only early 250 years old, and while wealth/power has accumulated in particular families, we don’t have as long of period for the aristocracy to become entrenched - hence the movement on both sides of the political aisle to stop further entrenchment.
The last time I was in Europe, I unfortunately did not have the opportunity to visit Belgium. I truly hope to someday visit your beautiful country and take in its culture and history. I’ve had several friends visit and talk about how great it was!
Also, yes Belgium is a great visit. Don't do it for the beauty tho. We don't have any interesting nature compared to the states. We have a unique culture and lovely cities tho. And everything is very close to each other compared to the states.
