Yes, we want the government to protect the interests of all Americans, not just the so-called “elite”.
I couldn’t careless that Trump is rich. Being rich in of itself isn’t a bad thing. I strive myself to be wealthy, and it would be hypocritical for me to dislike someone just because they have more money than me. I care more about the actions that a person takes in government, and Trump has done a tremendous job of putting American citizens first as a priority, and not just the “elites” interests. He could be poor as dirt or richer than Gates, it doesn’t matter to me, what matters to me is how the person governs.
I think Europe in general is very different to the USA in its political culture (Europeans/Americans in general, are very similar in other cultural aspects), because of thousands of years of history that has taken place there. Europe has a long history, going from Emperor’s, to Monarchies, to parliamentary governments, to now a more central government with the EU. That is a lot of time for wealth to be accumulated by particular families and power to be retained in those families. Whereas, the US we are only early 250 years old, and while wealth/power has accumulated in particular families, we don’t have as long of period for the aristocracy to become entrenched - hence the movement on both sides of the political aisle to stop further entrenchment.
The last time I was in Europe, I unfortunately did not have the opportunity to visit Belgium. I truly hope to someday visit your beautiful country and take in its culture and history. I’ve had several friends visit and talk about how great it was!
True there is a big difference between Europe and the USA. I think the USA has corporate even more rooted in their government then in Europe.
But Trump hasn't been shy to channel state funds into his own companies in clever (and legal) ways. Doesn't that concern you that he might not be as concerned with the priority of the avarage citizen ?
And maybe more about his own agenda and the people close arround him (so a part of the elite)
I've done some research and I can't find allot of ways he had an enormous positive impact on the average joe. Avordable health care is still rather awfull in the states. Taxes for average people haven't really gone down.
Not saying other Presidents have, since I doubt that very much. But I don't particularly feel Trump has.
Do you have examples how his presidency has had a positive impact on the average joe ?
I'd love to add it to my research.
Yeah I agree. Europe does a much better job on regulating corporations, especially with GDPR and other regulations.
I haven’t seen any evidence that he has funneled money directly into his businesses.
Opportunity zones is one thing, tax reform another, border protections, removal of funds/involvement from international organizations that raise our tax dollars. He tried to do healthcare reform, but was blocked by McCain, amongst other actions.
Would like to chat more, but I have to get to work and can’t partake in lengthier more thought out posts at the moment.
Glad to have had an intellectually honest discussion with you.
