Philosophy and economics are the same fucking thing. They both ask "why?". When we've stopped asking "why?" we are enslaved by our beliefs. Totally unrelated, I watched MacGruber for the 2nd time a couple of nights ago. Fuckin' hilarious.
I can't fathom why Sowell has not received the recognition he deserves as an intellectual Lion of 21st century America.
Actually I can fathom why, as at the root level the simple fact of being a conservative neutralizes any racist, misogynistic, homophobic, or other "istic" insults the left can hurl at someone.
Intelligent, critically-minded geniuses have intellectually vetted his takes. He is recognized for criteria that matter. Criteria that can only be evaluated by intelligent, critically-minded folks. There is no higher honour.
Plus his conscience is clear. He had said and done what he has needed to and the gratification that comes along with that counts for a lot. Being able to live with ones self is something very underrated. Something most libtards don't have, which is why they always seem to be crawling out of their skin.
The same reason why earned > gifted. We embolden and reward depravity everyday to make excuses for those who are incapable of taking care of themselves.
A large portion of the govt has a victim-complex and addiction to intervention. The govt also employs and pays entitlements to so many that we can’t have a pure conversation. Hell were not even in a pure capitalist economy but want to punish results due to ‘capitalism’...
This quote just wrinkled my brain and gave me a very sour thought at the same time, but I'm sure it would not be very well received.
I am well aware that this quote is made to show how programs like affirmative action and generational coddling for millennials and Gen Z are quite toxic.
On another level, I as a straight white man have felt attacked for my race and gender and sexuality for over a decade and that it wasn't being taken seriously by the mainstream. Could this quote also be applied to me as well? Am I getting shit on by myself? Or am I now just getting shit on as much as everyone has been getting shit on in the past.
Probably not, just saying this quote hit me there.
Lefties will often trot out a variation on this quote for this exact purpose. Any time a bunch of white guys care about something, lefties come in and claim that "you're just upset about losing your privileged status in society."
But then you just listen to what else they have to say, like "so go fuck yourself you deserve to deem like shit you stupid useless white man." Or you simply consider the actual situation, and realize that you're specifically being singled out in a way that you never do to others, so their claim is just wrong in the first place.
"I as a straight white man have felt attacked for my race and gender and sexuality for over a decade and that it wasn't being taken seriously by the mainstream."
No, the opposite. My reaction to the quote was giving me a pause about this belief, though.
Edit: To clarify, I'm saying I felt more attacked than other groups, but was reflecting on if I'm just being attacked more than before, but not more than other groups.
I feel more attacked than others, or at least that shallow attacks based on nothing other than being straight, white, or men are more accepted in recent memory.
I do not believe in white privilege. If there was, then all these instances of genetically white people pretending to claim they're in a different race wouldn't exist .
Edit: Yay, I'm wrong about the potential baited trap.
I don't know if Sowell actually said this, and I don't know if the idea put forth is psychologically valid, but I do know this quote was used to gas light straight white men when affirmative action was implemented to discredit the justified complaints coming forth regarding the degradation of the ability to participate in society by the leftists. I'm guessing this quote is bait to see if the site will praise this if they think it comes from one of our "heroes"
"Once, when I was teaching at an institution that bent over backward for foreign students, I was asked in class one day: “What is your policy toward foreign students?” My reply was: “To me, all students are the same. I treat them all the same and hold them all to the same standards.” The next semester there was an organized boycott of my classes by foreign students. When people get used to preferential treatment, equal treatment seems like discrimination."
This guy knows what's up
He is one of my heros
Such an amazing man
Thomas Sowell is possibly the greatest American mind of the 20th century.
I honestly believe this. He’s always labeled as a great economist, which he is, but I view him as almost a philosopher. He’s brilliant.
Philosophy and economics are the same fucking thing. They both ask "why?". When we've stopped asking "why?" we are enslaved by our beliefs. Totally unrelated, I watched MacGruber for the 2nd time a couple of nights ago. Fuckin' hilarious.
This gentleman is brilliant.

Smart black conservative breaks every thread of the narrative.
really?
The Gem Meister.
There is based, and there is brilliantly based, am I right, or am I absolutely freakin' right?
Brilliantly right
He was not too enthusiastic about Trump in 2016, as I recall. I don't know for sure but I think he's come around.
Can we petition Trump to give this man the Presidential Medal of Freedom?
"Affirmative" action
"Preferential treatment" is like a drug.
When people get used to preferential treatment, equal treatment feels like racism.
What does unequal treatment feel like?

I love this quote. So, so true.
National treasure.

You believe in white privilege?

No but that's what I mean. If you were attacked less than other groups, that would imply you had some privilege that they did not enjoy.
I feel more attacked than others, or at least that shallow attacks based on nothing other than being straight, white, or men are more accepted in recent memory.

It's just so well.

Thank you for the context!
^this is Fake news
(Paragraph containing the quote is at the end. It came as a response from Sowell refusing to give special treatment to foriegn students)
If you're unwilling to do a simple google search, you have no business talking with any kind of authority.
I wasn't. I'm actually really glad that I'm wrong cause I would hate to think of this quote as a leftist trap
I didn't know where the quote/phrase originated, but I know how it's been used
You could look it up.
