For a city like Tokyo to have fewer than 6000 covid cases is pretty remarkable

61
FreeAndHostile 61 points ago +62 / -1

Based. Almost no immigration. Maintains cultural identity. Uses common sense during the outbreak.

18
hai_Priesty 18 points ago +20 / -2

Btw almost 40% of the first cases in Tokyo is from the tiny red light district of Kabukichou.

Which I think is a showcase of how the spread is way less potent than any "model" except that in the West, big city degenerates with their multiple sex partners and "open relationships" caused the whole epidemic to flare up worse the HIV in the 80s. And NY gay community not only NOT get the basic memo on COVID, they couldn't even stop lick each other's poop as late as end of March 2020 (https://nypost.com/2020/03/24/nyc-declares-war-on-rim-jobs-in-graphic-health-department-memo/).

See other even denser cities like Seoul or Hong Kong, and see how based Taiwan that closed their border away from China at first signs of trouble practically saved the nation.

whatever the fuck you are having sex with, if it has covid, you are going to be exposed to it long before you start eating each others poop.

Also the masks help, Tokyo, Seoul, taiwan, they all wear masks

12
glasses2020 12 points ago +12 / -0

They wear masks when they have the sniffles. It's a culture thing and it's not even close to being everyone.

0
Jadef 0 points ago +2 / -2

Yeah but in this situation they certainly increased mask wearing on account the virus, and the fact they all, or most, do this has inhibited the spread.

It is more than anecdotal this diminishes spread, we see all the super spreader cases are at soccer games and choir practices where moisture droplets are emitted. The virus may penetrate the mask but wearing a mask lessens the viral load in the air by trapping some moisture, its effect is to reduce viral load in the air and thus reduce the rate of transmission.

I get that it's not normative in america to do this, and it contributes to an atmosphere of anxiety, however covid is serious and like the japanese we should be conscientious and responsible, not dragged kicking and screaming, this is an instance where trumpets look as bad as libtards and this phenonmenan is validating that to people.

They arent, I dont think they could, but the net effect is that between the hispanics and blacks who dont wear the mask in the cities who see such higher rates of infections, and the large bulk of conservatives who dont although less at risk because of usually being in more rural envieonments, means that there will be higher spread than in a country like japan, which although very crowded has thoughtful and responsible people, not reactionaries who refuse to do anything not directly for themselves unless compelled or paid. Or refuse to believe anything but what is convenient for them to believe.

Wearing a mask is a good idea and pretty fucking easy. In this case conservatives are worse than libs are with HCQ.

But it is certainly not all conservatives against the mask.

Masks don't do shit.

2
Jadef 2 points ago +2 / -0

So then what did japan do different that they had such slower spread ?

2
awooo 2 points ago +2 / -0

Japan didn't send covid patients into nursing homes. Japan didn't delay action by impeaching their prime minister. Japan didn't hoard ventilators in warehouses, selling them out the back door while claiming to need thousands more.

Masks are nice. So is green tea and citrus fruit consumption. But let's not kid ourselves about what happened in the USA and NYC in particular.

2
Jadef 2 points ago +2 / -0

Even if you remove the nursing homes from the equation our death rate and rate of spread are way higher than Japan, s korea, Taiwan. Countries in Europe and canada had lower death rates than the US but higher than japan etc... And the reason masks work is apparent, as I've mentioned they reduce viral load in the air by blocking moisture droplets. You see the countries in europe with the highest death rates are ones where people kiss each other all the time.

Mask wearing is a simple and effective mitigating method and its increasingly clear to all, the reasons to oppose it are kind of trivial, it makes people look foolish. No one is saying wear a mask at all times, but when you go to a store, on a train, this is how you reopen the economy and protect people who work in stores etc...

1
just-a-pleb 1 point ago +1 / -0

Low immigration for one.

2
TGNX 2 points ago +2 / -0

The masks don't help with this virus. It is smaller than the holes in the mask. That's why the N95 masks were reserved for health care workers, those masks DO keep that virus out.

2
Jadef 2 points ago +2 / -0

The virus itself is smaller than the holes in a cloth mask, but as i said in other comments there is a lot of indication that it is transmitted in water droplets. That the main spread case in South Korea was at a church where they were doing something which involved spraying. Or in italy where soccer matches where crowds scream and yell was a super spreader.

And this is intuitive, we know a sneeze with its moisture will release the virus and you dont want to be sneezed on by a sick person, that person cover there sneeze so the germs dont go spraying everywhere.

That the virus is attached to moisture and the masks reduce the emitted moisture, so in enclosed spaces like subways or even stores, people wearing masks reduces viral load in the air by reducing moisture and fewer people will contract the virus. It does not eliminate it but it slows its spread. That's why all these mask wearing countries- japan, South Korea, taiwan, have slower spread, japan did not even have lockdown, what they do different is the majority wears masks.

They also do not have a culture of close contact. They don't typically use handshakes, they bow. They also tend to be more fastidious than Western countries.

Japanese definitely have homeless. In Osaka Castle Park and Ueno Park they used to have massive tarp towns of homeless. They build little apartments of wood under the bridges in Kyoto.

Admittedly part of it is just japanese culture, very respectful, bowing instead of handshakes or cheek kisses like the europeans.

But most of it is because this stuff wasn't nearly as dangerous as it was made to seem. Also fuck china

3
Tonightm01 3 points ago +3 / -0

Considering the population of a city like Tokyo there is no excuses for big cites like NY and London.

The people at work in Tokyo have done an amazing job. Japan was one of the first countries outside China to get cases. Amazing work by their leaders.

2
Rainman 2 points ago +2 / -0

Absolutely agree. Inept mayors / governors have dramatically increased the effects of COVID

They are using a drug called Avigan... used as a flu medication before Covid. Our media barely reported on it because of ... well they are crooked. https://english.kyodonews.net/news/2020/05/aa0ac32d8123-fujifilm-set-to-make-avigan-for-2-million-covid-19-patients-by-march.html

The one New York Times article about it was typical fear-mongering “it may cause birth defects for pregnant women!!”

Because as we all know, pregnant women are super high risk for Covid 19 /S

  • HCQ is fine for pregnant women though

Ya lost me... are you trying to say that Israel is trying to undermine the Trump administration? What would be the point of that? Trump is a staunch defender of Israel. China on the other hand sees the US as an enemy and has no trouble infiltrating this country with spies and saboteurs.

If they hadn’t killed Jesus, Which actually the Romans did, Would he have risen from the dead giving us eternal life? It’s almost like God is in control and everyone has their purpose. The same guy that took really good care of those folks when they were in Egypt.

This impressive. Its been thought that the reason for Italy's high mortality was due to being the 2nd oldest population in the world. They're 2nd behind... Japan.

So what did Japan do that was so efective?

Oh man as someone from PA where they forced state nursing homes to take covid patients resulting in 70% of the deaths happening in nursing homes in my state this rings home. 70% of deaths in 500 nursing homes in the state. 70% of deaths in 500 buildings. Buildings. Not towns, cities, regions, counties, metro areas.... fucking buildings.

5
liberty4alll 5 points ago +5 / -0

They didn’t test as much. Either on purpose or due to lack of resources. In any case, the lack of testing kept the number of known cases down, which then tampered the media from spreading panic. Make no mistake, this is a media-based pandemic and not a scientifically-based pandemic. The left’s call for ‘nEeD mOaR tESTiNg!’ plays into their hands because it’ll raise the number of known cases, (which they amplify in the media) while hiding the fact that the symptomatic rate is very low and overall not worth the lockdown.

Genetics, maybe the China Virus was bioengineered to be more lethal against non-Asians. India was relatively unscathed, too, so you can't say it's hygiene that prevents the China Virus.

Maybe we should take them up on that here...and with voting too...

Because they are not a dirty society that enough sense to not shit where you eat.

4
Supersaiyanbroly737 4 points ago +4 / -0

India was also relatively unaffected by the China virus, though, so it can't be about being hygienic.

5
niacin 5 points ago +5 / -0

It's not entirely accurate to say "No Lockdown".

I speak regularly with a native Tokyo resident. He had told me that they were told to work from home and limit going out. It wasn't as harshly mandated as what we've done here in North America, but they did stay at home and restricted a lot of stuff.

I just felt that it was important to mention.

4
LostViking1985 4 points ago +4 / -0

Huh, imagine that, a government asking their citizens to make smart choices but respecting their freedom.

4

I wonder how many Coronavirus patients they jammed into their senior care facilities?

People need to be more mad that Dem governors killed a bunch of elderly either through incompetance or politic-inspired malevolence.

2
techadm 2 points ago +2 / -0

Has anyone compared Japans Covid deaths in nursing homes to other countries? Maybe they managed to keep it out of nursing homes and as such prevented the LARGE MAJORITY of deaths that come from that, Nursing homes around the globe have been the number 1 sources of deaths.

2
Supersaiyanbroly737 2 points ago +2 / -0

Maybe it's genetic at this point. South Korea, North Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the rest of China did not see UK, Italy, France, Spain and USA levels of death.

Heck, 3rd world countries in South East Asia have minimal deaths, as well.

2
lanevorocks 2 points ago +2 / -0

To be completely fair .. there was no hardcore lockdown but business did stop voluntarily. Still they had the advise to stay home for a moth or even less.
