Based psychologist here. I’ve seen lives transformed by drugs for schizophrenia when a person was so psychotic that they couldn’t tell which side was up or down. I’ve seen people with severe depression or anxiety have the effects lifted enough by medicine to be able to effectively engage in treatment with the goal of weaning off the meds. I’ve also seen countless kids misdiagnosed with ADHD or Bipolar by unqualified teachers or social workers and get sent to an MD with no specialization in behavioral health to get psych meds. I’ve seen plenty treat psych meds as a crutch to avoid facing underlying conditions.
There are legitimate cases of these disorders, and when properly diagnosed, the combination of therapy and medication can be magical. But the societal shift toward viewing any psychological discomfort as unnatural and needing to be “fixed” or medicated away is very dangerous to the society.
PS I’m sorry you have to be subjected to my psych liberal peers. There are many. Some MAGA psychologists exist too, but we have to be quiet because our licensing board is basically a branch of the DNC.
