Both are protesting against the Democrats in charge - but the looters and short term thinkers don't see the connection between their political choices and the world they inhabit.
Notice the protesters didn't go to the governor's mansion or the state capital. As long as politicians can sit safely while they burn their own neighborhoods, they're not a threat to the power structure.
