People are social animals. For the most part everyone operates in some sort of collective manner. However, I would suggest that conservatives are much more interested in open space and "separate but together" than leftists. The leftists are mostly all in heavily populated areas packed tightly together while conservatives are largely in more rural areas.

While you are technically correct, the rest of the community is culpable too IMHO because the single mothers and the grandmothers(their accomplices) are the ones raising them. When the platform was smaller the killer feature of reddit was its high concentration of professionals and experts in numerous fields able to rapidly fact check submissions free of charge. You can't beat the free of crowdsourced information with a paid news room model.
This destroyed media credibility, thus we saw daggers come out and media outlets began openly targeting tech platforms by characterizing them by the actions of the worst behaved. Media outlets could close their own comments but could not close all internet communication, that required other disruption tactics.
Boston bombing for example. Reddit live threads sourced breaking information faster than any news room could perform, and debunked inaccuracies in reporting as they aired. The community on reddit did a great job reminding one another not to doxx people in material available and removing comments that tried to do just that. Media hooked on this and wrote the usual rage bait insisting reddit was to blame for activity the community comments did a great job self-policing.
The effectiveness of this attack saw expansion of the tactic to bully and intimidate tech platforms into the situation we're seeing out there today.
Where we do not have transparency is what service media digital teams perform today. I know NYT is famous for the size of their digital teams. I do not know what exactly those teams do all day. It looks like submissions from major media outlets have heavy online presence promoting their content and harassing anyone who points out flaws in published article. I suspect this is a major part of the story in spread of cancer culture across reddit or other social media platforms.

I don't think anyone recognized at the time how pernicious those stories were. In retrospect this appears to have been a prototype for how far the media would lie to get what they want.
We can view it as a form of the SWATing model. Communicate lie constructed to drive need for urgent action to a third party against a target victim. In SWATing a lie is constructed to compel need for urgent action by the police to go and raid the target victims home. In the rage bait attack we see a story constructed to compel reaction from readers who go and harass (cancel) the target victim (usually a person and in this case reddit).
The usual human centipede of media checkmarks on Twitter copied one another to lazily meet their word quotas with some variation of the same story.
That never sat right with me. I spent the day engaging in those threads and only saw laudable behavior. Whenever attempt to find suspects started up the community called them out, reported the comments, and mods deleted them fast. After being booted from reddit tracking threads people went off to engage in it elsewhere. The same suspect searching activity was taking place on YouTube, Twitter, 4chan, smoke signals, pigeon protocol, and any other communication platform connected to the internet.
But, reddit proved they were the fastest outlet to surface new information and fact-check more accurately than any other outlet. So that ability had to be destroyed for risk to media's hold on reporting current events.
So it was bullshit again.. I should have known, having never seen the supposed harassing comments myself. Thanks for disabusing me of yet another fake news notion.

Reddit is about 5 years behind Fark vis-a-vis daily page hits popularity death spiral.
They were once the cool kids that monopolized the best spot on the playground. They overplayed their relevance causing reasonable people to become disgusted and begin seeking any other spot on the playground.

Even if you had registered the name Facebook and had the exact layout before the real Facebook, you wouldn't have become rich from it. These companies don't get popular over night from a dorm room, there are other things at play.

Fox News previously reported that an anti-Trump Democratic-aligned political action committee advised by retired Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal is planning to deploy an information warfare tool that reportedly received initial funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Pentagon’s secretive research arm -- transforming technology originally envisioned as a way to fight ISIS propaganda into a campaign platform to benefit Biden.
DARPA, however, said Curtis Hougland, who is running the new operation, was overselling the agency's role in creating the tool.
"Hougland's claim DARPA funded the tech at the heart of his political work is grossly misleading," DARPA tweeted. "He advised briefly on ways to counter ISIS online. He was not consulted to design AI or analysis tools, nor certainly anything remotely political. DARPA is strictly apolitical."
