In Erwin v. State (1876), the Supreme Court of Ohio wrote that a "true man", one without fault, would not retreat. In Runyan v. State (1877), the Indiana court rejected a duty to retreat, implying it was un-American, referring to the distinct American mind, "the tendency of the American mind seems to be very strongly against" a duty to retreat. The court went further in saying that no statutory law could require a duty to retreat, because the right to stand one's ground is "founded on the law of nature; and is not, nor can be, superseded by any law of society."

Whoever wrote that opinion is a man whose hand I'd like to shake.

Their opinion is a fucking fact.

Well, what are you doing still sitting around here? Go! Get this to his lawyer, PRONTO!

What good is an Ohio court decision going to do for a Minnesota business owner? I'm pretty sure that ruling only impacts residents of Ohio.

Well, I was going to give a pithy response, but DaDonDada1776 beat me to it with a well-placed and informative link. Thanks, Fam!

At any rate, that was a fair question, and I'm honestly glad you asked it. Never be afraid to ask questions, because that's the best way to get answers. ^_^

That’s the most American court decision I’ve ever read. It almost brings a tear to this centipede’s eye.

Nobody. It’s supposed to be handled by insurance I’m assuming. I personally think the law is silly, and would rather give store owners the right to shoot anybody that tries damaging their property or threatening them. Anything less is assuming people are looting and rioting and burning things ‘with good intentions’ or something.

I don’t live in Texas or know their laws, but my Texan friends tell me that they’re allowed to shoot people for so much as suspiciously entering their general property line. I’m okay with that. No solicitors, and no one uninvited. Especially in rural areas where cops can be an hour away.

Well in rural areas your can shoot, shovel, and shut up.

Hogs or wood chippers and lye are even better than shovels. There's no crime committed if there's no bodies.

How to survive a slasher film:

Rule 1: Own a gun.

Rule 2: Don't not own a gun.

Never thought of it that way. They’re all basically ads for the NRA.

I can't watch Scream 4 without thinking "how does this girl not carry a gun around with her at all times?"

And especially no contact tracers. Texas is definitely on my list of places to retreat to from the liberal shithole I live in. Don't worry, I'll vote red down the ballot and won't bring any drag queens with me.

I’m in the Bay and was of the same thinking, but my Texan friends all tell me that people in my area are fleeing to places like that and CO and trying to make those places more like here. I don’t want to uproot my very entrenched life here only to move somewhere else surrounded by the people I was trying to move away from.

I suppose I'd have to pick somewhere that degenerate lefties aren't fleeing to. Oklahoma is sounding pretty based and I've also mets tons of raging lefties that fled Idaho cuz they hate it so much.

Also, China does this by moving their han majority into tibet where they now overpopulate the region and kill off the culture. If one country does that to other, it would be a war crime like in WWII.

You can shoot someone for so much as looking in your windows here in the great state of Texas

4
ClownTamer 4 points ago +4 / -0

Here in the Bay, you can probably be arrested for looking out your window with disapproval at rioters looting and hobos shitting in the streets after looting. I’m not sure how we still have stores here, there’s a lot of looting going on. Vegan people complain if they can smell meat from a BBQ. There are endless alphabet folks made of glass here.

a well regulated militia is the only answer to this situation.

4
hit_backspace 4 points ago +4 / -0

Since the government does nothing to protect its people, and allow criminals to run free as if it's The Purge, militias need to overthrow the tyrants.

Yeah I was about to post this. What if my shop is my livelihood? They've stolen all my merchandise and now I'm broke because the insurance company won't cover it. Now I don't have a home.

My shop is my home, by proxy. If that's actually the law, that's unconstitutional as fuck.

Meddlesom 2 points ago +2 / -0

How could it possibly be your livelihood? Unless you're a tiktok nurse, your business, and life, are unessential.
