Yeah, he often brought up "killing machine" when he talked about them. He was Swedish, did his obligatory military service but they refused to keep him because they couldnt cater to his height. At 6' 7" you crouch on a bunk and dont fit in a tank, so he went and fought in Rhodesia. I dont know the avg height, but he said Rhodesians (Afrikaans?) were tall men and he didnt stand out as much.
Tbh, for me its mind blowing to just pack up and go fight in the bush for another country. The first thing they told him before he signed on was that you don't ever want to be captured by the enemy as a mercenary. That would be enough for most men to have second thoughts.
