This. What happened was, as James says, disgusting; but lets not make the victim out to be some saint when evidence suggests otherwise. The police were there for a reason. Unfortunately you can't also then follow up with "but his death was completely unwarranted" without the media conveniently omitting that last bit.
That's debatable and not really immediately material without seeing the full video and scene. I've yet to see a full video.
Whether or not you, if you do opt to restrain someone then you have to make sure they can breath even more so if by the neck.
In this case both the victim and a bi-stander make it clear there's a problem and the cop completely ignores it. There's no excuse for that even if people often say that when it's not true. You can't adhere to the boy who cried wolf. Imagine one person makes a fake report to 911 reporting respiratory distress so the operator dismisses all subsequent calls, it doesn't work like that.
It's possible the restraint was excessive in the first place but what I've seen in the video that's not the fatal mistake.
After being informed multiple times the officer does bugger all to check and readjust. After the victim appears to pass out he doesn't seem to even notice for quite sometime. It looks to me as well like he's putting his full weight or a lot of it which you can't not be conscious off.
The bits and pieces of videos I have seen so far are confusing. Walking him around then having him on the floor. I don't understand why there is so much time wasting and faffing around when they can just put him in their car. Why pin him to the ground and why for so long?
He is in completely the wrong posture to restrain someone with the knee like that for controlled force. He might as well have just sat/stood on him. He looks like a total retard.
If I'm not mistaken he's asking if the victim will get in the car and the victim says he will but the cop is still sitting on him that's fucked up.
Yea bro. Everytime you talk about how terrible something like this is and then shine a light on the media making saints out of criminals, you're accused of durrr racism. I think it shows the level of intellect we're up against. Everything has to be 100 percent black and white for them, in more ways than one.
While I agree the circumstances are very chaotic. People surrounding a cop in the midst of an arrest put them in a state of hyper vigilance. He was placed wrong on the suspect and had to remain there to in that position to protect himself from retaliation. The people filming and approaching are as guilt of murdering him as is the cop for his poor decision making.
Decent man? Why was he on the ground? An angel fallen from heaven?

At one point a spectator said, "Just put him in the car."
The other officer replied, "We tried to do that for ten minutes."
Whether the crime was serious or not is completely immaterial.

hog tied, maybe, cuff, no. Even then he can spit, always a threat.
Innocent until PROVEN guilty.
Yeah, he could have left that part out.
