In the law of the land in the USA the police are not required to obey illegal orders....ever. If the order is illegal the police must refuse. If they don't then they are as guilty as the person giving the illegal order. Period!. Mayors governors are not above the law. Although it appears many of them think they are. A police force the 'just obeys orders without thinking is useless. And likely criminal.
And they have, and, because they are human beings, they will mostly continue to do so. "Ordinary Men" chronicles the german police told to extract jews from Polish Ghettos were told the work would be gruesome and to step forward if they wanted to opt out. 12 of the 500 opted out and were sent back to Berlin without consequence. A few more opted out when they began to murder the women, children, and elderly from the ghettos, but most continued on with the genocide. Don't think we are incapable of this.
It's a wife's job to tell her husband when he's acting crazy. It's a husband's job to acknowledge that but still continue acting crazy if he thinks it's necessary.
If arrests don't happen, or is theater, even once, that's above the law. When rule of law fails, equity (or chancery for fellow pedes across the pond) is a great alternative.
You’re forgetting that many cops don’t work for elected sheriffs—the city cops work for the chief, appointed by the lib mayor. If they refuse to follow the mayor’s directives, they’ll be fired. Ultimately, both the riots and the killing are due to the mayor’s flaccid management. Breakdowns in community respect of LEOs, and lawlessness by the citizens.
Same BS occurred in my city of South Bend. Mayor Pete essentially neutered our cops on use of force, thugs know this, which causes a deep disrespect of cops, thus terrible things happen as a result. Did Pete stand up for our LEOs? Of course not.
Yesterday in SB, a 17yo kid got into an argument with another kid, both armed. One raises his gun and the other shoots him dead. Where’s the riots there? It’s sad, but this is freaking normal for a lot of us!
All these cases are a result of the breakdown of respect and order on all sides. How do we restore peace? Respect on all sides.
With these dem mayors, I don’t have hope that it’ll happen.
Personally, I agree with Mayor Pete (probably only thing that I’d agree with him on) that cops should be neutered in the sense you wrote. Cops have become way too militarized and that needs to change. I would prefer a two tiered system for cops, your run of the mill cop gets nothing but pepper spray. The tier above that are highly trained, particularly in de-escalation and allowed to have guns. This second tier would be called in to deal with actual armed or suspected armed individuals.
I know the argument will be, “you don’t think police should be able to protect themselves”, and my response to that it isn’t a matter of protecting themselves, they signed up to do a job voluntarily, and know the risks involved. If they don’t want to accept the risks of not having a gun, don’t sign up. Besides, my two tiered idea solves that problem.
You feel this way BC cops, especially city cops, are essentially the attack dogs of lib mayors. The mayors sit in their towers and take no responsibility for anything while the city runs wild and LEOs are targeted each and every day.
We should all demand action more from our mayors. Vote em out if they’re killing us! Instead, cities continue to vote lib and we continue to have to deal with the fallout. Our only control in stopping these killings is to vote out blue leaders and restore respect to authority.
Agreed that the mayors and city councilors have blame in this - particularly with approving the budget for purchasing more weaponry. However, the buck stops with the police. The mayors aren’t out there killing citizens, the mayors aren’t out there conducting no knock raids, the mayors aren’t out harassing citizens for being at the park with their daughter or shutting down gyms because people are working out. The police should have the mental faculties to know right and wrong, and not be abusive to citizens. Mayors can issue all the decrees they want, but good luck enforcing them if the police won’t do their bidding.
The evidence shows that the vast majority of police will do that bidding.
Lib cities, mostly lib cops. They hire from the general population. If on average they are stupid most cops will be stupid. Minneapolis has circled the common sense and intellectual drain.

The other night my wife told me I was acting crazy, my response was she is killing the jews... she didn't like that so much.

is there any news about the 17 year old shooting each other?
Here’s another story, unrelated. https://www.wndu.com/content/news/Two-wounded-in-Wednesday-night-shooting-570827001.html
i guess what makes it different is this was a cop on civilian action.
i personally respect city cop and some county cop. i have deep mistrust with state police.
the police didnt do themselves any favor when they harassed anti-lockdown protestors.
As you’d expect, it’s already buried by blm and trump stories. Here’s link (again, this stuff is so common here, no one even seems to care anymore) https://www.wndu.com/content/news/17-year-old-charged-with-murder-not-in-custody-570841391.html
Edit: I misunderstood the news this morning—the shooting I’m referring to happened May 13th, the charges came yesterday, Jaylin Tucker is at large

Those cops should be ashamed.
Same with the Military.
