There are there to show them "enough, we will draw the line right here. Then we will move this line. Then we will institute a curfew. You will have us stand on your street corners. We will leave when you can behave."
It's because they care more about their friends on Snapchat and Instagram seeing them being an activist than they care about respecting the life of Mr. Floyd. They aren't there to "fight for change", they're only there to inflate their egos and antagonize their own community.

Usual protocol seems to be tear gas and some of these guys are so well covered rocks, bottles, etc. won't affect them. I suspect the usual cowardly 'I'm gonna beat my chest and run my mouth and maybe give you a dirty look or flip you a bird as I scurry away.
